Conosciuto come club rossonero, l'AC Milan è nato il 16 dicembre 1899, fondato dagli inglesi Alfred Edwards e Herbert Kilpin, con il nome di Milano Cricket and Football Club. La prima partita ufficiale fu contro l'FC Torinese il 15 aprile 1890, in questa partita persero con il punteggio di 3-0. Un anno dopo la sua fondazione, il Milan iniziò a vincere i suoi primi campionati, vincendo il campionato italiano per 3-0 contro il Genoa con una tripletta del suo fondatore, che era anche il manager della squadra. Nel 1907 riuscì a vincere il campionato italiano, ma da allora non vinse più alcun campionato per 40 anni. Nel 1939 il club cambiò nome in Associazione Calcio Milano, il nome attuale. Nella stagione 49-50 il club ingaggia lo svedese Gunar Nordahl, che diventa il capocannoniere del club con 210 gol e 5 trofei di Capocannoniere. Nella stagione 50-51, con un solo punto di differenza rispetto all'Inter, il Milan vince la Serie A per la quarta volta segnando 108 gol, e in questo decennio vince 4 scudetti. Con l'arrivo di Andrea Rizzoli come nuovo presidente nella stagione 54-55, inizia la prima era d'oro che porta molti acquisti come la leggenda Cesare Maldini. Negli anni '60 arriva il Bambino d'Oro, il calciatore Gianni Rivera. Nella stagione 1962-63 il club vince il suo primo titolo internazionale battendo il Benfica in Coppa Europa. Nella stagione 1967 il club vinse il nono Escudetto.
Nel 1968 il Milan vince la sua seconda Coppa dei Campioni al Bernabeu contro l'Ajax di Amterdam. Nel 1969 vinse la sua prima Coppa Intercontinentale contro l'Estudiantes, una partita considerata la più violenta della storia. Nella stagione 79-80 essendo il presidente Felicie Colombo coinvolto nel cosiddetto totonero in cui molti giocatori e dirigenti truccavano le partite, quando fu scoperto la Serie A prese duri provvedimenti contro alcuni club in cui il Milan perse la categoria. Nella stagione successiva il club fu promosso vincendo la Serie B ma dopo una brutta campagna acquisti fu retrocesso nuovamente in Serie B, queste furono le uniche due volte in cui il club fu retrocesso. Con l'arrivo del DT Sachi nell'87-88, che creò il cosiddetto Metodo Sachi, con il quale sarebbe iniziato un periodo d'oro del club, questa squadra fu chiamata gli immortali di Sachi.
L'anno successivo arriva l'olandese Frank Raikar, quest'anno vincono la Coppa Europa e poi la Coppa Intercontinentale per la seconda volta. L'anno successivo vince il suo quarto campionato europeo e poi la sua terza Coppa Intercontinentale. Con l'arrivo del manager Fabio Capello, la squadra realizza una stagione da record, vincendo la Serie A e guadagnandosi il soprannome di invincibili, arrivando a 58 partite senza perdere. Nella stagione 93-94 raggiunge la finale di Champion League, questa volta contro il Barcellona, favorito, ma il Milan vince il suo quinto titolo e poi in Coppa Intercontinentale perde contro El Belez di Bianchi. Nel 95-96 ingaggiano Roberto Baggio, vincendo questa stagione di Serie A. Con l'arrivo del nuovo secolo la stagione è negativa e viene ingaggiato Carlo Anceloti. La stagione successiva vede la finale di Champions League tra Juventus e Milan, con il Milan che vince la sua sesta coppa europea. Nella stagione 03-04 arrivano Cafu e Ricardo Kakà e in Coppa Intercontinentale il Milan perde contro il Boca Juniors. Nella stagione 04-05 il Milan raggiunge la finale di Champions League contro il Liverpool, perdendo questa volta ai rigori.
Nella stagione 06-07 il Milan torna in finale di Champions League, avversario il Liverpool, partita vinta per 2-1, vincendo la sua ultima Champions League, e nel Mondiale per Club contro il Boca Junior vince per 4-2 con una grande prestazione di Kakà. Nel 2010, con Maximiliano Alegri, hanno vinto il loro ultimo Escuddetto. Dopo di allora i festeggiamenti si sono fermati per la mancanza di titoli. Negli ultimi anni il Milan è tornato a disputare campionati internazionali.

Known as the Rossoneri Club, AC Milan was born on December 16, 1899, founded by the Englishmen Alfred Edwards and Herbert Kilpin, with the name Milano Cricket and Football Club.
