Dear Italy...Greetings from Sri Lanka!
Hello Italy...
We as Buddhists believe, positive energies of our past gave us the chance to be born as human beings to this world. There is a strong connection between spiritual bodies and one's personal destiny.
There are many occasions where Sri Lankans look for astrological guidance. But today I will share three important occasions where we use astrology.

When a child is born, A member of the family visits an astrologer to convey the date, place and the precise birth time to obtain a set of Sinhalese letters for the first letter of the child's name. Based on this information the astrologer makes a horoscope for the new born child.
That’s when we get the horoscope for a lifetime. Astrology Literally means light when walking in the dark. We believe it shows the path to success.
The next occasion where astrology is involved is at a traditional marriage ceremony. According to our culture we believe, a man and women become partners in life because they are destined to meet together. It’s an influence of buddhist concept Karma or actions in our previous birth. Before the marriage the horoscope of both partners is checked carefully to see if it matches. This process is known as “porondam baleema” (Matching the horoscopes). The whole marriage ceremony is planned based on auspicious time which is suitable for both.

Astrology also plays an important role in Sinhala and tamil new year which falls in the month of April. Every ritual is performed at an auspicious time given to everyone throughout the island.
Do you need to know an interesting fact?? Even our country has a horoscope! Astrology is a part of Sri Lanka's culture.

I think Sri Lankans are too much into Astrology. However everything depend on how much faith you have on this sort of subject. Since it is bond with our culture we have more faith in it.
