As I mentioned in my last post, there have been some sudden changes that are causing my poor presence these days on Steemit.
Last week I suddenly have been called to be a teacher in Piombino.

The email, which arrived at 9.27pm, has, as you can imagine, changed changed a lot my routine.
I had to quickly go to Piombino to be able to sign the service, and I had to inform my (now former) employer of the change.

At first, I naively believed that I could carry on both activities, perhaps passing to a part-time contract. Unfortunately, however, the Italian regulations on work in the public are clear: you cannot have a private contract (unless one has a VAT number) if at the same time one has a contract with public work.

It was a tiring moment, because leaving a job where you feel comfortable is never easy. But I couldn't really let the opportunity slip by, although having never taught, I don't even know if it is actually a road that I will like or not.

The class to which I have been assigned is rather tiring, a first year class in a professional school, guys and girls with problems are numerous, and everything is seasoned with various social and family problems.

It is disheartening to find yourself getting to know certain realities having your hands tied and therefore being able to intervene very little. However, it is important to insist, to make an effort, to hope to be able to give some tools to those who have most difficulties not only in the school environment but in everyday life in general. One should try to insist even if it is necessary to repeat and repeat concepts that now appear banal to us, to look for simpler and more effective ways to make clear that certain things written in books are not distant and obsolete things, but present in everyday life, perhaps used absently and taken for granted.

School should give to all the kids a place where they can compare, have fun, learn without feeling judged. In short, a place that makes them come back the next day not because they are still attending compulsory school but because they feel good there.

Feeling good in a place is the first step that students must have guaranteed to ensure that they are able to achieve results not only in school but also in life. Feeling good is what might be comforting them one day when they will be more discouraged, perhaps because they took a 4 the day before or because the situation is difficult at home.

If you don't create an environment that kids want to return to despite difficulties and problems, those kids are already lost.
I do not mean that without school there can be no future, entire generations have lived peacefully even without being schooled.
I mean that school must be a positive, life-enhancing place, not a boring obligation that one has to wait for.
I hope in my small way I can do something positive for them.

Buongiorno a tutti!
Come vi ho accennato nel mio ultimo post, ci sono stati dei cambiamenti improvvisi che stanno causando la mia poca presenza di questi giorni su Steemit.
La settimana scorsa ho ricevuto improvvisamente una assegnazione di cattedra (sul sostegno) a Piombino.

L'email, arrivata alle 21.27, ha come potete immaginare stravolto la mia routine.
Ho dovuto velocemente recarmi a Piombino per poter firmare la presa di servizio, e ho dovuto informare il mio (ormai ex) datore di lavoro del cambiamento.
In un primo momento credevo, ingenuamente, di poter portare avanti entrambe le attività passando magari ad un contratto part time. Purtroppo invece le normative italiane sul lavoro nel pubblico parlano chiaro: non si può avere un contratto nel privato (a meno che uno non abbia la partita iva) se contemporaneamente se ne ha uno nel pubblico.

È stato un momento emotivamente faticoso, perché lasciare un posto di lavoro dove per altro ci si trova bene non è mai semplice. Ma non potevo davvero lasciarmi sfuggire l'occasione, sebbene non avendo mai insegnato, non so neanche se effettivamente si tratti di una strada che mi piacerà oppure no.

La classe a cui sono stato assegnato è piuttosto faticosa, una prima professionale, gli alunni con problemi sono numerosi, e il tutto è condito da svariati problemi sociali e familiari.
È sconfortante trovarsi a conoscere certe realtà avendo le mani legate e potendo quindi intervenire ben poco. È tuttavia importante insistere, sforzarsi, sperare di poter dare alcuni strumenti a coloro che maggiormente hanno difficoltà non solo nell'ambito scolastico ma in generale nel quotidiano. Insistere anche se occorre ripetere e ripetere concetti che a noi appaiono ormai banali, cercare modi più semplici ed efficaci per far capire che certe cose scritte nei libri alla fine non sono distanti e obsolete ma presenti nel quotidiano, magari utilizzate distrattamente e date per scontato.

Dare ai ragazzi un luogo dove potersi confrontare, divertire, imparare senza sentirsi giudicati. Un luogo insomma che li faccia tornare il giorno dopo non perché stanno ancora frequentando la scuola dell'obbligo bensì perché si trovano bene.

Sentirsi bene in un posto è il primo passo da dover garantire agli alunni per far sì che riescano ad ottenere dei risultati non solo nella scuola ma anche nella vita. Sentirsi bene è ciò che magari potrebbe essere di conforto un domani quando saranno maggiormente scoraggiati, magari perché hanno preso un 4 il giorno prima oppure perché a casa la situazione è difficile.

Se non si crea un ambiente in cui i ragazzi vogliono tornare nonostante difficoltà e problemi, quei ragazzi sono già persi.
Non voglio dire che senza scuola non possa esserci un futuro, intere generazioni hanno vissuto serenamente pur senza essere scolarizzate.
Voglio dire che la scuola deve essere un luogo positivo, che migliora la vita, non un obbligo noioso che si è obbligati ad attendere.
Spero nel mio piccolo di poter fare qualcosa di positivo.
