Era una di quelle giornate estive in cui il sole sembra voler abbracciare ogni angolo di Roma con il suo calore. Il cielo è di un azzurro intenso, senza neanche una nuvola a fare ombra. L’aria è calda, quasi pesante, ma c’è qualcosa di magico nell’atmosfera: sarà l’emozione di trovarsi davanti al Colosseo, il simbolo eterno della Città Eterna.

Appena arrivati, la prima cosa che colpisce è la maestosità di questa meraviglia antica. Alto circa 50 metri, con la sua struttura imponente e i suoi archi perfettamente allineati, il Colosseo racconta una storia lunga quasi 2.000 anni. Costruito tra il 70 e l’80 d.C. sotto l’imperatore Vespasiano e completato da suo figlio Tito, poteva ospitare fino a 50.000 spettatori. Qui, i romani assistevano ai combattimenti tra gladiatori, alle cacce di animali esotici e persino a simulazioni di battaglie navali quando l’arena veniva riempita d’acqua.

Oggi, mentre cammino attorno a questa meraviglia, immagino il frastuono della folla di allora, il suono delle spade che si scontrano e i ruggiti delle belve provenienti dai sotterranei. Certo, adesso al posto dei gladiatori ci sono turisti con cappellini e macchine fotografiche, e al posto delle grida ci sono guide turistiche che raccontano aneddoti affascinanti. Ma il fascino rimane lo stesso.

Il caldo si fa sentire e ogni angolo d’ombra diventa prezioso. Un gelato sarebbe la soluzione perfetta, magari un bel cono alla crema e nocciola, da gustare con calma mentre ci si gode la vista. Le pietre antiche sembrano quasi riscaldate dal sole, e l’aria profuma di storia e… un po’ anche di pizza proveniente dai locali vicini!

Dopo qualche foto e una passeggiata intorno al monumento, è il momento di esplorare l’interno. Le scale sono ripide, ma una volta in cima, la vista è spettacolare. Roma si distende tutto intorno, con i suoi tetti color ocra e i campanili che si ergono qua e là. È facile capire perché il Colosseo sia una delle meraviglie più visitate al mondo: è un tuffo nel passato, un’esperienza che lascia senza fiato, in tutti i sensi (specialmente con questo caldo!).

Con il sole che inizia a calare, l’anfiteatro sembra quasi dorato, illuminato da una luce che lo rende ancora più affascinante. È il momento perfetto per un’ultima occhiata prima di proseguire verso un’altra avventura romana… magari con una bella carbonara ad aspettarci!

It was one of those summer days when the sun seems to embrace every corner of Rome with its warmth. The sky is a deep blue, without a single cloud in sight. The air is hot, almost heavy, but there’s something magical in the atmosphere—perhaps the excitement of standing before the Colosseum, the eternal symbol of the Eternal City.

As soon as you arrive, the first thing that strikes you is the sheer majesty of this ancient wonder. Standing about 50 meters tall, with its imposing structure and perfectly aligned arches, the Colosseum tells a story nearly 2,000 years old. Built between 70 and 80 AD under Emperor Vespasian and completed by his son Titus, it could hold up to 50,000 spectators. Here, Romans once watched gladiator fights, hunts featuring exotic animals, and even naval battle reenactments when the arena was flooded with water.

Today, as I walk around this marvel, I imagine the roar of the crowds, the clash of swords, and the growls of wild beasts coming from the underground chambers. Of course, now, instead of gladiators, there are tourists with sun hats and cameras, and instead of cheers, there are tour guides sharing fascinating stories. But the charm remains the same.

The heat is intense, and every shady spot is a treasure. An ice cream would be the perfect solution—perhaps a delicious cone with cream and hazelnut flavors, slowly enjoyed while taking in the view. The ancient stones seem almost warmed by the sun, and the air smells of history… and a little bit of pizza from the nearby restaurants!

After snapping a few photos and strolling around the monument, it's time to explore the inside. The stairs are steep, but once at the top, the view is breathtaking. Rome stretches out all around, with its ochre-colored rooftops and bell towers rising here and there. It’s easy to see why the Colosseum is one of the most visited wonders in the world: it’s a dive into the past, an experience that truly takes your breath away—in every sense (especially in this heat!).

As the sun begins to set, the amphitheater takes on a golden hue, bathed in a light that makes it even more enchanting. It’s the perfect moment for one last glance before heading off to another Roman adventure… maybe with a delicious plate of carbonara waiting for us!

War einer dieser Sommertage, an denen die Sonne jede Ecke Roms mit ihrer Wärme umarmt. Der Himmel ist tiefblau, keine einzige Wolke ist zu sehen. Die Luft ist heiß, fast drückend, aber es liegt etwas Magisches in der Atmosphäre – vielleicht die Aufregung, vor dem Kolosseum zu stehen, dem ewigen Symbol der Ewigen Stadt.

Sobald man ankommt, fällt einem sofort die imposante Größe dieses antiken Wunders auf. Etwa 50 Meter hoch, mit seiner beeindruckenden Struktur und den perfekt ausgerichteten Bögen, erzählt das Kolosseum eine fast 2.000 Jahre alte Geschichte. Es wurde zwischen 70 und 80 n. Chr. unter Kaiser Vespasian erbaut und von seinem Sohn Titus vollendet. Hier verfolgten die Römer einst Gladiatorenkämpfe, Jagden mit exotischen Tieren und sogar nachgestellte Seeschlachten, wenn die Arena mit Wasser gefüllt wurde.

Heute, während ich um dieses Meisterwerk herumspaziere, stelle ich mir das Gebrüll der Menge vor, das Klirren der Schwerter und das Knurren wilder Tiere aus den unterirdischen Kammern. Natürlich gibt es heute anstelle von Gladiatoren Touristen mit Sonnenhüten und Kameras, und anstelle von Jubelrufen hört man Tourguides, die faszinierende Geschichten erzählen. Doch der Zauber bleibt derselbe.

Die Hitze ist intensiv, und jeder Schattenplatz ist ein kleiner Schatz. Ein Eis wäre jetzt perfekt – vielleicht eine leckere Waffel mit Sahne- und Haselnussgeschmack, die man langsam genießt, während man die Aussicht bewundert. Die alten Steine scheinen von der Sonne aufgeheizt zu sein, und die Luft duftet nach Geschichte… und ein bisschen nach Pizza aus den nahegelegenen Restaurants!

Nach ein paar Fotos und einem Spaziergang um das Monument ist es Zeit, das Innere zu erkunden. Die Treppen sind steil, aber oben angekommen, ist der Ausblick atemberaubend. Rom breitet sich in alle Richtungen aus, mit seinen ockerfarbenen Dächern und den Kirchtürmen, die hier und da emporragen. Es ist leicht zu verstehen, warum das Kolosseum eines der meistbesuchten Wunder der Welt ist: Es ist eine Reise in die Vergangenheit, ein Erlebnis, das einem buchstäblich den Atem raubt – in jeder Hinsicht (besonders bei dieser Hitze!).

Als die Sonne langsam untergeht, nimmt das Amphitheater eine goldene Farbe an, getaucht in ein Licht, das es noch bezaubernder macht. Der perfekte Moment für einen letzten Blick, bevor es weitergeht zum nächsten römischen Abenteuer… vielleicht mit einem leckeren Teller Carbonara, der auf uns wartet!
