Hearing the name of Portugal reminds me of their glorious past. The Portuguese once ruled more than half the world. Their rule extended from Asia to Africa and as far as America. The Portuguese were the rulers of one of the largest empires in the world.
The capital and largest city of Portugal is Lisbon, located on the Atlantic Ocean and across the Tagus River. The city of Lisbon is basically a modern city consisting of 7 large hills with a fascinating natural environment. That is why this city is also known as Seven Hill City to many.
Vasco da Gama, a Portuguese sailor and explorer, set sail for India for the first time in 1497, crossing the catastrophic coast of South Africa in 1498, sailing from the river Tagus, which flows through Lisbon. His discovery brought great good fortune to the Portuguese.
The trade of Indian spices began to have a profound effect on their economy. The door of possibility of an economically weak nation of that time was opened in an instant. In a short time the wheel of their destiny turned.
The highest mountain in Lisbon is Grassa, from where the whole of Lisbon can be seen up to 360 degrees. It is one of the oldest cities in the world, historically located in Lisbon after the Greek capital Athens. Which was established in and before the city of Rome, Italy. The city currently has a population of over 600,000 and is a multi-cultural city with people from more than 97 countries around the world.
The town was first settled about 3700 BC, so the city has numerous ancient monuments.Portugal has more than 15 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, so about 18 million people visit Portugal every year, and a significant number of them come to enjoy the ancient beauty of the city.
There are many historical and world heritage sites and places of interest. Lisbon is one of the few capital cities in the world with beaches. Only 20 km from Lisbon city center. The location of the distant beach which can be reached in just 15-20 minutes by bus, train or car.
Alfama is one of the oldest and oldest areas in Lisbon, surviving the devastating earthquake and tidal wave of 1753. Every year thousands of tourists flock here to visit the narrow streets and ancient settlements.
Let's find out some important places or places of interest. First comes the name of Jeromas Monster. Originally it was the tomb of the discoverer Vasco da Gama. Castello de Saw Jorge is located in the heart of Lisbon, at the foot of the hill next to Alpha. This royal palace is one of the tourist attractions. It offers a 360 degree view of Lisbon. Enjoy the beauty of the Tagus River from afar, as well as the blue waters of the Atlantic.
Until 1147, the Mauritius resisted an attack by Christian forces on the palace, but it was captured that year under the leadership of Afonso Henriques. The museums and archeological monuments, high walls and observation towers in it can make anyone feel better in an instant.
Known as the Belem Tower, it is one of the finest symbols in Lisbon. Built between 1515 and 1521, the tower was built in the middle of the Tagug River to observe ocean-going vessels. Recognized as a World Heritage Site in 1983 as one of the finest examples of the Age of Discovery. It is a tourist attraction located in Belem.
The Lisbon Oceanarium is one of the best in Europe and one of the largest aquariums in the world. It was inaugurated at the 1998 Lisbon Expo. An artificial sanctuary of mysterious marine life, especially an aquarium rich in biodiversity from the Atlantic, Indian, Pacific and Antarctic Oceans. Next to it is the Vasco da Gama Bridge, the largest bridge in Europe, which is about 17 kilometers long and has a beautiful cable car.
Many areas of Portugal, including Algrave and Alenteju, were under Muslim rule from the seventh to the thirteenth centuries, so more or less Muslim symbols and various Islamic names can be found everywhere in Lisbon and Portugal.
