Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, the capital of Brazil, is famous for celebrating the English New Year. Millions of people gathered on the beach on January 1. The four-kilometer-wide beach starts from Lifeguard's Watch Tower No. 2 and ends at Tower No. 1. There are several historical forts here. Fort Copacabana on the south side of the beach was built in 1914. Fort Dugue de Cassius on the north side was built in 1779. This beach is the name of the area but it was not Copacabana before. It was called Sakopinapa until the middle of the 18th century. Statues and churches were erected in 1892 in the shape of the Bolivian goddess Copacabana. From then on, the name of this city became Kopakabana.
Copacabana Sea Beach is also the official venue for the FIFA Beach Football World Cup. This beach has the crown of Nudist Beach. The locals of Rio call this beach 'Karyokas'.
