Inca stairs, Isla del Sol, Titicaca Lake, Bolivia (5 pics)
The largest island of the world's highest lake has several hundred Inca ruins to explore.
The first one we see when getting off the boat is surely one of the most impressive.
The Inca stairs which provides access to the top of the island and to the Yumani village is just superb.
Even if the stairs are steep it is impressive to be able to climb these stairs which date from the 15th century AD.
At the bottom, we are greeted by 2 huge statues on each side of the staircase.
A statue of an Inca warrior and his wife therefore welcomes us to the island by showing us the way.
I have to say I don't know if he represents any particular Inca Emperor, but I find it interesting to commemorate the Inca Empire this way.
Also at the bottom of the steps, the fountain of youth, another among so many, is on the left.
We see the water flowing from the hill to this fountains during our ascension.
It must be refreshing in summer!
