The Centaur / Der Kentaur
Half man, half horse, the centaur Chiron presents himself here, a figure from Greek mythology; good knowledge of natural medicine was attributed to him.
Halb Mensch, halb Pferd, präsentiert sich hier der Kentaur Chiron, eine Gestalt der griechischen Mythologie; ihm wurden gute Kenntnisse der Naturheilkunde zugeschrieben.
The sculpture was created in 1902 by the Dresden artist Otto Petrenz from sandstone. The depiction corresponds to the enthusiastic view of nature at the time of its creation and is a late reminder of the heyday of the Dresden Baroque.
Die Skulptur wurde 1902 durch den Dresdner Künstler Otto Petrenz aus Sandstein geschaffen. Die Darstellung entspricht der schwärmerischen Naturauffassung der Entstehungszeit und stellt eine späte Erinnerung an die Blütezeit des Dresdner Barock dar.
At this location, the centaur symbolically refers to the nearby former Lahmann sanatorium Bad Weißer Hirsch. At the same time, the sculpture forms a guardian figure for the Albert Park.
Der Kentaur weist an diesem Standort symbolisch auf das nahegelegene ehemalige Lahmann-Sanatorium Bad Weißer Hirsch hin. Gleichzeitig bildet die Skulptur eine Wächterfigur für den Albertpark.
