Not long now till the adventure begins - final preparations on my Road to HiveFest (via Poland)…

Last time, I mentioned there was a change in plan. No further changes since then and everything on course for Kraków later this week and Amsterdam next week.

There was still the small matter of transport from Kraków to Amsterdam which I've now booked. I'll be flying to Eindhoven (as you can't appear to fly direct), then getting a train from there.

On Hive I've been trying to get into the habit of posting daily. I'd like to post twice some days where possible and makes sense, then of course I'm bound to miss days, so averaging around once a day is great. If you're too busy enjoying yourself to post, that's great! Then you'll also have material to write about when you're back ;)

As we near the HiveFest event, I've found myself trying to explain blockchain et al again to some family and friends. So I've given them some info and see what they do from there. I also reminded them and linked to my 2017 Facebook photo album which had all sorts of info and links to blog posts of that year's event. Just the 5 years and I think it was largely ignored at the time… Adam and his scams and schemes.

One way or another people will be 'introduced' to blockchain, crypto and related tech if they like it or not. They don't need to understand it per se (who really understands the mechanics of the internet, they just use the bugger) but will be using the platforms and projects built upon it.

Especially with all the doom and gloom about energy prices and other crises galore, when people realise they can earn a few bucks for their normal social media activities, perhaps the penny might drop out of necessity if nothing else. And earning a few pennies on posts is just the tip of the iceberg - not what this whole thing's about, but does attract attention.

And when the other benefits become clearer then that will reinforce the offering. People don't really care… until they do. It's time for a complete overhaul of everything, and that time is fast upon us

What we're doing is important, and Hive - and HiveFest - is central to it all. Yes, there are others out there, some 'better' / some 'worse' in different aspects, but it's all largely irrelevant if we're all taking strides forward and building the new. Things can always be tweaked and improved.

HiveFest (and in person) is more important than a mere get-together and there's a reason I'm making an effort and expense to get there this year. The power of meeting people in person can't be underestimated, not least because you now have that bond. You're more than just a guy on the internet, now you're a real person you've had a beer with and lost to pool at.

Some of the only support I've had on posts these past few years has been from people I met in Lisbon 2017. That's not to say that's the only way - you just have to be more active in connecting, engaging and the like in order to forge those relationships. I'm quite poor at doing that consistently but I try where I can. My forte is getting my head down and writing… and getting in amongst social gatherings.

You see things and hear things at in person events. You go deeper; you looking directly at a live face - not an avatar, words on a page or even a picture or video. It also makes things more 'real' - the blockchain, the tech behind it, the projects upon it, and the vision going forward.

And you have fun. it's hard not to. And what's better than going to a particular place (in this case Amsterdam), for a set period of time, for a specific event with a schedule. You don't need to think too much; just turn up, learn and enjoy!

That said, I'm all set. First leg of the journey on Thursday so may update then or from my hotel in Poland. Anyone else joining the fun?
