Ethereum's Post-Merge Road map.

Holla! Welcome to my blog once again. I trust your day has been productive... Do ensure you get the best out of today. Yea! Let get down to business.

I could remember I stated in my last blog that I would be giving a detailed explanation about the Ethereum road map. We have seen the accomplishment of just one of the five solid event that will take place in the Ethereum network.

Now we are left with four. I highlighted the four yesterday. I would highlight all over again to make it easy for comprehension. The five event are;

• Merge
• Surge
• Verge
• Purge
• Splurge

Here we go. I won't be going over the merge again as we already know what transpired in the merge. The summary of the event is that Ethereum network transited from PoW to PoS. In addition, the beacon chained was merged with the mainnet.

That been said,let's move into what I call the post merge event which are the other four listed above. We will be taking them one by one so that we can understand what difference those event would be adding to the Ethereum network.

• The Surge

---

Just as the name implies, it aims to improve the activities going on in the network and make it better than it was. During this event, sharding technology which will be implementated which will greatly improve the network Scalability

According to my little findings, it will improve the functionality of the layer-2 protocol by means of synergy, the data of the network will then be splitted across the network for efficiency. There will be no need for validators to store huge data because the network now has a bigger data base.

According to Vitalik Buterin, one of his dream is to see that the Ethereum network process 100,000 transaction per second in the nearest future.

• The verge

In this particular stage, another new technology will be introduced. It's called the "verkle tree" and "stateless client". The verkle tree functions similarly to the merkle tree we are familiar with but this is just an optimized version of the merkle tree.

The implementation of these tehnologies will also provide some form of support for those who would love to be validators but don't have the 32ETH which has become the new normal since the network now runs on PoS mechanism.

With Verkle tree, storage of data will also be optimized in that node size will be reduced, and also ensures reduction is "proof size" of data thereby improving network Scalability.

• The purge.

---

Just as the name implies. The goal is to decongest the network and also make it as decentralized as possible. The purge will eliminate load of historical data which could actually become a problem if not taken care off as they transit from one phase to another.

According to Vitalik, this stage will be for reducing hard drive space for validators on the Eth network by deleting old data and bad debt thereby helping the system stay less congested and efficient.

• The Splurge

Well this is the final stage of the five solid plans the Ethereum network has in store. At this point, the goal is continuous improvement on the network. A lot of stuffs will be introduced here which will enhance the smooth running of the network.

In this stage, Vitalik has plans to introduce a far more sophisticated cryptographic technology which he believes will work well with EVM and Z.K technology
