Migration, a socio-economic problem has continually posed a serious threat to nations and cities of the world. A situation whereby cities suddenly infiltrated with influx of people with no jobs, no shelter, no direction, no funds to live on is significantly becoming alarming. This social and economic problem really takes a toll on the developed nations and the urban areas where some government tightens bother security to prevent population explosion. Migration happens mostly in currupt and war-torn developing nations as the people move seeking for greener pasture.

Let's now dive into the outlines of the contest

Explain Migration in your own words.

Migration as I understand is the movement of people from one place to another seeking for greener pastures. It could also mean the movement of people or animals from the rural to urban areas or movement of people from the developing nations to the developed world seeking to improve their social and economic standard of living.

What are the causes of migration?

The main causes of migration are as follows: bad Governance, corruption, lack of job opportunities, lack of basic social amenities, war/insecurity, environmental hazards, economic problems etc, few of the above can be further explained under the following sub-headings:

Corruption: Corruption here is the diversion or misappropriation of public funds meant for development or dissembursement by the public officials. The funds that was assigned for public good has been siphoned into the cartel accounts or been misused on a project that doesn't directly benefited the citizens.

Bad Governance: Most nations especially in Africa are cursed with bad leaders. These men lack the vision, passion and the drive to strive to lift it's people from poverty at least to an extent by making good policies that are people oriented and implementing them. All that matter to them is their families, cronies and bellies leaving the citizens to seek for a way of survival.

Lack of Employment Opportunities: Due to no employment opportunities in the rural areas, youths tend to move to the urban areas to look for job and improve their standard of living. Another instance is the migrant movement from the developing nations to the developed world to secure jobs with good pay to improve their lives.

Lack of basic social amenities: When there's insufficient or no basic amenities in the rural areas people are prone to migrate. Such social amenities are good road network, health facilities, good infrastructure, electricity and water supply, educational facilities and technology. People who desire an improved lifestyle would definitely migrate to areas or countries with such facilities to advance their lives.

Insecurity/War: War or any form of insecurity would lead to migration. As nations engage in war or communal clashes, the vulnerable ones would run looking for safe haven. War or ethnic crisis would trigger hunger, hardship, collapse of the economy. This would make the citizens to scamper for safety through migration.

Environment Hazards: Environmental problems such as flooding, draught, hurricanes, earth quake, oil- spillage through industrial actions make people to become homeless thus migrating from thier former homes where there's a better environmental conditions.

Do you think migration is the solution?

It could be the solution or not. There are persons who migrated and it works for them and there are others whom it didn't work out. It's a plus or minus thing. It's for one to strike a balance between the option that truly works and benefited too.

Substantially, solution to migration lies in the collaborative effort of government and the private sectors to provide the basic social amenities available in the urban areas to the rural areas too. Secondly, the developing nations should forsake their usual currupt practices, strive to develop their countries as a matter of neccessity, following these measure would drastically reduce migration if not stopping it completely.

Are you willing to migrate if you see opportunity. Which country would be your destination?

I'm ever ready to migrate to Canada or Australia if the opportunity presents itself. We have been wasted a lot of years here in the country and nothing to live for. There are opportunities there for people to live a quality life, there are basic social amenities for citizens to enjoy life at fullest with full security. Citizens are gainfully employed, having financially secure future. I really desire to live an improved life after all "who no like beta thing".

Migration is a socio-economic problem arising from bad governance, Corruption, lack of social amenities, environment issues, insecurity, unemployment, poor government policies and implementation. If government and the private sectors join hand together and do the neccessary, migration could be reduced if not curtailed. I would personally migrate for greener life in chosen countries with stable economy.
