Hello Everyone

Assalamu Alaikum friends. Wishing everyone good health. Hope you all are well. By God's grace I am fine too. Today I am here to participate in a wonderful learning competition organized by our teacher @ashkhan. The Topic of this contest is Steemit Learning Challenge-S22W3; Trigger Finger". So this is a very important competition where we can learn some important things. Below are some questions that I will answer correctly. So let's get started.
What's trigger finger? Write in your own words after getting knowledge from the lesson post. |
---|
Trigger finger is a physical condition that causes inflammation and swelling of the finger tendons and surrounding tissues. This results in pain when moving the finger and a clicking or locking sensation when bending or straightening the finger. In this condition the finger can sometimes get stuck in a crooked position. It's usually caused by overuse or trauma, and people with conditions like arthritis or diabetes are also more at risk.
Causes of trigger finger | Source |
---|
01 | Overuse of fingers or doing the same thing over and over again. |
---|---|
02 | Finger injury or pressure. |
03 | Diseases like gout, arthritis, and diabetes mellitus. |
04 | Incorrect posture or poor ergonomics. |
Symptoms of trigger finger :-
01 | Finger pain and tenderness, especially when bending or straightening. |
---|---|
02 | Redness or swelling in the finger due to swelling of the tendon. |
03 | Clicking or locking sensation in fingers. |
04 | Limitation of finger mobility, especially at the metacarpophalangeal joint. |
How would you diagnose a trigger finger? Any clinical investigation or assessment tests? |
---|
I would follow the steps below to diagnose trigger finger.
Take patient history : collect patient's occupation, finger overuse habits and injury history. Know if there is any past medical or surgical history.
Physical examination : check for swelling, redness and pain of the finger. See if there is a clicking or locking sensation when bending or straightening the finger.
Imaging tests : Using X-rays or ultrasound to look at the condition of the tendon. Do NCS (Nerve Conduction Study) if there is nerve problem.
Special physical examination :-
Flick test | Check for pain and clicking sensation in the finger. |
---|---|
Knotter Test | To confirm the presence of tendon problems. |
Trigger test | seeing if pain and clicking are felt when flexing the finger. |
Through these steps, the diagnosis is confirmed and the treatment plan is determined by determining the extent of the problem.
Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share images, gifs or videos while practicing preferably gifs or videos. |
---|
01 | Finger Extensor Strengthening |
---|
- This exercise strengthens the finger extensor muscles which can be weakened by trigger finger. The finger is stretched using a rubber band or similar device, which is helpful in restoring the strength and function of the finger.
02 | Tendon Glides |
---|
- Finger tendon mobility and flexibility are enhanced through this exercise. It improves the limited length of the tendon due to inflammation and helps reduce finger pain.
03 | Massage of Finger Joints |
---|
- This exercise increases blood circulation to the finger tendons and surrounding tissues. It is helpful in restoring the normal position of the tendon and is effective in reducing pain and swelling.
Share your review after performing these exercises either on yourself, healthy individual or patient. |
---|
After applying the prescribed exercises (finger extensor strengthening, tendon glides, and finger joint massage) to myself for trigger finger problems, I noticed the following:
- Finger Extensor Strengthening : Light pressure is felt on the finger while exercising with a rubber band, which is a good way to activate the muscle. It is useful for increasing finger strength.
- Tendon Glides : This exercise improves finger flexibility and mobility. Felt smooth while bending and straightening the finger.
- Finger Joint Massage : After the massage I felt mild relief and relaxation in the finger tendons. It has been found to be effective in reducing pain or swelling.
These exercises are easy to do and give good results in a short time. Regular practice can improve finger performance.
So finger extensor strengthening, tendon glides and finger joint massage exercises are simple, effective and comfortable for trigger finger problems. Practicing these regularly can improve finger strength, flexibility and pain relief. That's why we need to know them.
So it's a very nice learning competition where we have learned a lot by participating. So I am Inviting my lovely Steemian friends @stef1, @ulfatulrahmah, @kouba01, @selina1 to Participate in this Competition.

Thank you so much for spending your precious time on this post and giving such a wonderful comment. I wish you success. God bless you.
Hey max. I really enjoy reading through your post. You've not only detailed the causes, symptoms and and how to diagnose a trigger finger patient, but you've clearly shown in GIF and video the exercises required to scare away trigger finger. Excellent write-up sir, I wish you the best.
Thank you so much for spending your precious time on this post and giving such a wonderful comment. I wish you success. God bless you.
Thank you for understanding the lesson and sharing your assignment; I hope that you will enjoy this week's lesson and try to implement it in your life if you see any such case.
Observations
Task 1 (2.7/3)
You have shared a great knowledge about trigger finger, its symptoms, causes and but didn't add it's stages. A bit more depth require to complete the answer. I appreciate your effort.
Task 2 (2.9/3)
In the second question, you tell us about how you have to assess a patient by doing physical examination, history taking, special tests and investigations. It's notta's test not knotter test. Great.
Task 3 (4/4)
You try the finger extensor strengthening, finger joint massage, tendon glides. You did the finger joint massage stretches, tendon glides and finger flexor strengthening correctly. Always remember to apply heat pack in chronic condition and ice pack in acute condition before performing exercises to relax the muscles and reduce stiffness. I appreciate your efforts.
Overall you made a great attempt to answer all the questions. I appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from trigger finger or any type of finger issue. Thank you.
Thank you very much for observing my post and giving such a valuable review.🥰🥰🥰🥰
