May 2021 Bullet Journal Cover Page Art

Hello everyone! First of all, I would like to wish a Happy Labour Day to everyone. Today I did the cover page for the month of May. I have started bullet journaling last year and as I was/am exploring my journaling path, I keep making changes and seems like my journal is ever-evolving. I finished a book that I started in January 2021 and officially moved to my second book of this year so I thought of making an artsy style cover page unlike my regular minimalist style. This is also my birthday month, which is why I was extra enthusiastic :D

Tools and Materials

• My Journal (a simple grid notebook)
• A HB pencil to draw
• A dust free eraser to erase mistakes
• Staedler Luna colour pencils
• Faber Castell colour pencils
• A black inked ball pen
  
  

At first, I only did a basic sketch with a pencil and didn't add any other drawings.

Then I coloured the word with a bunch of pinks, red, and purple shades as well. I have no idea why I mixed them up like this. I wasn't thinking much and just coloured it for fun. That's probably why I added a blue shadow LOL :D

I drew a few details to fill the page more. Among them are a birthday cake, some gifts and balloons.

This is my birthday cake! I coloured the icing in pink and the cake in sea green. I also added a red candle and a golden tray.

I did a rainbow birthday pennant banner. I realized that the word 'Birthday' has 8 letters so I added an additional colour which is pink. I used a black ball pen to write the words with good precision.

Next, I coloured the balloons. I drew the strings in black first but then I thought it was dull so I added some pink on top of it. By the way, I accidentally coloured one of the gifts a little as I forgot to take a picture first :D

I finished colouring all the gifts. This is how it looks and that's my messy desk by the way.

I did one last final touch where I added some yellow to create 'highlights' as the blue was the 'shadow' on the word May. This is the finished outcome. This is the first time I did an artsy spread on my journal and I am happy with it as I enjoyed the process although I was tired since I went out grocery shopping today.
