Freehand Mandala Drawing
Hi everyone,
today I want to show you how I make freehand mandala.
Making mandalas is one of my passions, it helps me calm my mind and express my creativity.
When I started making mandalas, I used the squared notebook for guidance, but I wasn't happy with the end result. It seemed too rigid and geometric to me.
So I tried using lines and circles to create symmetrical shapes, but this method didn't work for me either. I was bored following pre-established rules and repeating the same reasons. Also, if I couldn't draw inside the lines I used to get nervous, the opposite feeling you want to reach while making a mandala!
So I decided to let myself go and do freehand mandalas, without worrying about perfection. I've discovered that it's much more fun and relaxing to make mandalas like this, because I can follow my instincts and my imagination. Every mandala I create is unique and special, reflecting my mood and emotions.
The first one is made with a black marker on a white sheet.
I started with a small drawing that looks like a flower in the center of the paper. It is easier to keep symmetry while doing a very little design.
So I continued in a circle starting from the flower, creating other patterns as I went. I used curved lines and circles like petals and leaves to fill the spaces. I tried to keep some symmetry and harmony between the shapes.
I turned the sheet 90 degrees every time I finished a pattern round. This allowed me to vary the perspective and create a dynamic and interesting effect and also to keep symmetry. I also used dots and little lines to fill spaces.
Finally I filled some spaces with black to give contrast.
With the same method I draw a green Mandala and a multicolor Mandala.
For the multicolor mandala i didn't plan the colors, I just went on step by step picking colors without thinking too much. Also I changed the patterns, so it looks a little messy but I liked this way!
Here are my freehand mandalas. I hope you enjoyed them and inspired you to try this technique yourself. Mandalas are a great way to relax, meditate and express yourself.
