Today, I'm going to talk about How can you Transform yourself without Social Media?

So, let's get started...

Social media became the new great addiction of our modern age. it is similar to alcohol, gambling, drugs. Notifications, likes, and new followers release dopamine in our brains and we get addicted to that feeling.

Social media companies are well aware of that and designed their platforms to keep us on them as long as possible. When we get asked:

If we could live without social media?

The answer almost always is “sure, I just don't want to…” which is what every addict says. In the last week's I realized that over the years I built an unhealthy habit of consuming a lot of social media probably because my work was always based around it.

Due to the lockdown, everyone was trapped at home. So the online world was the place where the cool stuff happened. Therefore the screen time on the phone got up to an all-time high of 4 hours a day.

At this time, many people are doing a social media detox. Aren’t you curious to see how it impacts you?

Here's the plan. You’ll have to delete Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Snapchat from your phone, on your laptop.

From now on there will be no more scrolling, no funny videos, no posts of my friends having fun, and no photos of beautiful girls.

How will you spend your time while doing Social Media Detox?

You can spend your time:

Doing your work and just reply to emails.

Spent a lot of time with friends and family and enjoy the moments without worrying about how many likes your picture would get.

After a week, you can go back into old habits sometimes you caught yourself tapping where social media apps used to be.

You can watch several series on Netflix as you need another source of entertainment. Also, you can spend much more time on WhatsApp only to text with friends but weirdly also to look at the different profile pictures of them. Probably it’s closest to Instagram.

Plan for those things that you didn't do for quite some time and it’ll be really fun to get back to it.

You can go for a little road trip to some of the nicest places in your region to enjoy and capture some beautiful moments to make use of the trip.

Think and talk about the things which really matter to you. as the time slowly comes to an end, you’ll feel something that you didn't feel for a long time. You’ll be passionate about the work you did throughout the whole time.

If you’re in a deep creative rut and have no inspiration and no motivation to create anything but I guarantee, quitting social media will reenergize your passions and you’ll be ready for a new chapter.

You’ll be feeling really good and productive. when you’re surrounded by people, you can’t look at the opportunities but when you’re with yourself; you can think of enormous things. For example, you can become active on LinkedIn and explore career opportunities.

There's no deep need to see what's happening in other people's lives. I don't know why but I feel the need to just see what's happening with other people makes you discomfort.

Avoiding this habit makes you motivated, focused, and rarely distracted and you’ll be in a creative flow.
You’ll get a lot of things done while enjoying your work.

When you’ll be passionate about your work but there will be something missing in the evenings when you normally spend the last hours of the day on social media. so there’s something needed to change. You can start reading books and go running in the evenings.

To count on the lack of social interactions; start to meet up with different friends and old colleagues or go to the park on your own to just chill and eat something.

You’ll definitely become more active after 30 days and you’ll not be even looking forward to going on social media anymore because you really enjoyed the last 30 days without it.

Is there any Funny thing about Social Media Detox?

The funny thing that you’ll feel after checking your social media is that nothing really worth mentioning happened on social media, nothing changed and everything was just still the same. you didn't miss out on anything but still, your mind will be just running wild again and you’ll be distracted again.

It has many benefits as you’ll be able to:

  • Spend less time on your phone
  • More time for your real friends
  • To reconnect with people who you didn't meet in years and it’ll be like already existing friendships only improved.
  • Stop comparing yourself with other people all the time. when you scroll through social media you always see the amazing works of other people and think to yourself:

“why can't I be this good at it? or why should I even try if it has been done before?”

During the detox, these questions start to disappear and you reconnect with your passion.

  • Your productivity will increase as well as you’ll have no problem getting into a creative flow while working. You’ll be less distracted, more focused, and have overall mental clarity.
  • The biggest change that you’ll notice happening is your ability to be in the present moment while normally the time seemed to rush by and your mind jumps from one thought to another.

A few weeks into the detox, everything around you starts to slow down and you’ll be able to drown out the noise. as you could only think about positive aspects that you took away from your social media detox.

Here's what you have to change

Turn off all the notifications

Turn off all notifications for social media apps. in this way, you don't get pulled into perhaps by themselves but instead, you only use the apps if you really want to.

Start Building Habit of Running

Start building a habit of going for a 30-minute walk every single morning without any distractions no phone, no music just walking listening to the wind, blowing through the leaves, and seeing the city come alive. these walks make you feel very present and free up your mind.

Try to do no social-media Sundays

Don't consume any social media to connect with the real world and recharge your batteries. so this 30-day detox turns out to be a much bigger project than you expected in the beginning.

It’ll really change the way you interact with social media and your perception of the things happening around you.

I think all of us should do this kind of detox to reevaluate our relationship to social media and also to prioritize our time in the real world and in the online world.

So trust me on this, give it a try, don't use any social media for the next 30 days, be strict with yourself and I'm sure you're going to experience as many benefits.
