Hello Steemians !!
How are you all doing ?
I am Faiqa Haider and today I'm going to tell you about a very trending technology which you all use in your daily routine and also love it because of its easy to use feature, So any guesses ?? Well I'm talking about Biometric Technology so , let's start the topic.

What is Biometric Technology?

Before going into the details of something we must know the definition of that thing. The word Biometric is derived from two Greek words 'bio' which means life and 'metric' which means to measure. Basically, biometric is the measurement of someone's physical and behavioral characteristics. The purpose of introducing biometric technology is to accurately identify the physical and behavioral traits of a person.

Why Biometric Authentication?

Biometric Authentication is one of the most accurate security check and it is very common in the current era in almost every domain. It is very easy-to-use as you do not need to remember long passwords. Some of the biometric authentication also work with having a direct contact with the person such as gait recognition. Devices which work on biometric technology consist of the following basic components : a reader or scanner used to scan the data, a software used to convert the scan data into standardized digital data and to compare the scanned data with the recorded data, a database to store the biometric data.

The two main types of biometric identifiers are physiological and behavioral characteristics. Physiological identifiers include the following:

  1. face detection

  2. iris recognition

  3. vein recognition

  4. fingerprints

  5. retina scanning

  6. voice recognition

  7. DNA matching

  8. digital signatures
Behavioral identifiers are related to the individuals acts such as typing patterns, walking gait, finger movements and other gestures. They are basically used for continuous authentication instead of single one-off authentication check. As everything has some pros and cons, biometric also have.

Advantages of Biometrics:

In the domain of security, biometrics has several advantages such as it is very convenient to use, no chances of stealing unlike passwords, takes less time and storage, nontransferable and etc.

Disadvantages of Biometrics:

Apart from the advantages, biometric also have some disadvantages such as it has high cost, database hacking, fail to identify a user when system crash, errors like false accepts and rejects may occur and it will not work if a person gets injured such as fingerprint scanner will not work when there is a injury on the finger.

Applications of Biometrics:

We all use biometric in our daily routine whether we are outside or at home such as at workplaces to show our identity, in mobile phones to keep our data secure, in banks for the transaction of money, in public sectors like Nadra to get ourselves registered, in educational institutes to mark our attendance, in airport to get scanned, and in many domains

Conclusion

This is some basic knowledge about biometric technology and everyone should know this because we all are using this technology somewhere in our daily routine. I love biometrics because I'm bad in passwords, do tell me your perception about biometric in the comments and start observing your surroundings, is there any biometric ....🤔
Thankyou for reading
I hope you like it...Goodnight
