WHAT IS A PET?
A pet is otherwise known as a companion animal, it's an animal kept primarily for a person's company or entertainment rather than as a working animal, livestock or a laboratory animal. ... Two of the most popular pets are dogs and cats; the technical term for a cat lover is an ailurophile and a dog lover a cynophile.
There other pets like Rabbits, guinea pig, birds, Pot-Bellied Pigs, horses, fancy rats, Cockatoos etc

Some people keep wired and unimaginable pets like Lions, snakes and other "very dangerous animals"

THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE GETTING A PET

• CAN YOU COMMIT:-? Pete ownership is a long term commitment. This is because pets like dog and cat require lots of attention an and as such you have to check if you you can make out such time to care for your pet.
• CAN YOU AFFORD?:- know your financial standing before you buy a pet. You will need to keep it clean, bath it, buy toys and of course treat it when he is sick or wounded.
• WILL A PET FIT YOUR LIFESTYLE?:- you have to double check to know if a pet will fit into your lifestyle before getting one. This includes your daily routine and job type type as most pets pets like dog and cat require lots of attention. This can also inform your choice of pet as you decide to buy a pet that doesn't require much attention.
• DO RESEARCH:- Before you get a pet, do research on that pet you are about to addop.
  Research about it's food, training, health and financial implications of owning such a pet.
• ALLERGIES:- pets like dog and cats have allegies.
  Therefore, you need to ascertain if you or your children have allegies for either of them before adopting one.
  You can do so by spending some time at the home of a friend who owns such pets.

• TRAINING:- if you want to get a pet, you need to undergo some training about that particular pet to know how it behaves it's food and how to know when he is sick or hungry. This will help you care well for your pet.
  

• GET A VETERINARIAN :- a Veterinarian is the first you should contact even before you buy the pet. He will furnish you with all the information you may need about how to take care of your pet, he will also be there when when your pet is wounded or sick.

ADVANTAGES OF HAVING A PET.

• They can teach kids responsibility.
• They can provide companionship to kids.
• They help us socialize and make new friends.
• they help decrease blood pressure.
• Helps increase colesterol level.
• helps to increase opportunities for outdoor activities.
• helps improve our immune system.
• Pets helps it's owner to dictate cancer early.
• Old people also rely on pets for companionship.

DISADVANTAGES OF OWNING A PET
Pets are very beautiful creatures and it's importance to it's owner can't be overemphasized, regardless, we can't overlook it's disadvantages which may include:

• For old adults, a pet dog or lion can jump friendly to welcome you and end up pushing you down leaving you with brocken bones.
• They can bring in some infectious diseases that are transferable to humans.
• Allegies especially in dogs and cats.
• Some pets can actually harm their owners in some occasions.
  Like snakes, dogs and Lions.

I have read of a lion pet and a snake pet that attacked their owners and killed them.
I have also witnessed a dog pet that attacked it's owner because it was left hungry and in chains for a long time.
