How many languages do you speak? Which one is your native language, and which ones have you studied?

I speak four languages: Kashmiri, Urdu, Hindi, and English. Kashmiri is my native language, and I have studied the other languages.

As a kid, we were only taught our native language because everyone in the family spoke it, and we learned that way. It is ironic to say that I can speak my native language but cannot write or read it fluently. That's because our native language was not taught in schools, so we learned to speak it but not write or read it perfectly.

As societies evolved, in addition to our native language, people started talking to kids in Urdu/Hindi, and nowadays, people have begun introducing English to kids from birth. So, kids nowadays learn all these languages at home.

What methods have you used to learn other languages?

For my native language, I haven't used any specific method to learn it. Urdu and English were taught to me in schools, and later on, I learned those languages by speaking them on a daily basis. As for Hindi, I can only speak and understand it because it is very similar to Urdu with only slight differences. I can also read Arabic, but I cannot speak or understand it completely. For Arabic, I have used YouTube to learn its grammar, but I haven't completed it in a way to be fluent. So, reading, writing, and speaking have all contributed to my polyglot character.

Besides the ones you already speak, which other language would you like to learn?

I would like to learn three languages: Spanish, Arabic, and Chinese. The reason for learning these languages is that the Spanish community seems widespread here, and China and the Middle East seem to have dominance over global affairs besides the English-speaking West.

What do you consider to be the most difficult aspect of learning another language?

The most difficult aspect of learning any language is accent and pronunciation. Native speakers of any language are easily identified by their different accents and pronunciation when it comes to speaking that language.

When writing in that language, grammar and syntax are also difficult and time-consuming processes. Moreover, idioms and cultural notions are very challenging to understand because they don't have a literal meaning. Even after acquiring a good vocabulary of the language, idioms can't be comprehended properly.

Why do you think it is important to master multiple languages?

Mastering multiple languages has become vital in today's world for the following reasons:

  • Foster communication: Polyglots are able to interact with people from different linguistic backgrounds, which facilitates trade, commerce, and better relationships.

  • Cultural insight: I believe languages are linked to cultures, and having command over a language gives a fair understanding of cultural norms and practices.

  • Career opportunities: Learning multiple languages provides opportunities to seek jobs in multiple regions in this globalized world. One can pursue careers as translators, interpreters, academics, in tourism, etc.

  • Overall growth: Learning multiple languages helps us understand different literary works and enjoy films, music, and other cultural aspects, promoting overall personal development.

Wow 4 languages. Thats great man! How can u be able to that?

One is my native , three were taught in school.

Saludos amigo.

Execelente que ya hables 4 Idomas y que además desees seguir aprendiendo es bueno que sigas explorando cuántos idiomas te sean posibles.

El Español es un Idioma extraordinario, y no te será difícil aprenderlo si le ponen mucho empeño.

Éxitos y buena suerte con tu participación

You are right . But I don't know why I think Spanish is difficult to learn .

Que bueno que tengas la capacidad de hablar cuatro idiomas (cachemir, urdu, hindi e inglés), pero me parece mas interesante el hecho de que puedas hablar y entender perfectamente el cachemir pero que se te dificulte escribirlo o leerlo.

Ademas, sientes el interés por aprender español, árabe y chino que son idiomas que te permitirán ampliar el rango de personas con las cuales podrías comunicarte.

You are right . Kashmiri is my native language but I can't write it properly because it hasn't been taught to me .

Thanks for going through my blog .
