The Garden in Winter — Signs of Life in the Dormant Landscape!

Hello fellow Steemit gardeners! A belated Happy New Year to all!

There is not much gardening here in the Pacific Northwest during the winter. Although we don't have super cold winters, we do get regular freezes and periodic snow.

So we mostly use this time of the year for planning our spring plantings.

Even so, I took a walk through our garden, just to see what was out there. It's amazing how life seems to find a way, even during the least hospitable time of the year!

Some aging tomatoes still clinging to the vine, under the snow

This tiny pansy is braving the winter climate; it was under snow, now above... just keeps going.

Some small mushrooms poking up, in spite of the frosty weather.

A different kind, not far away.

A single January dandelion... perhaps the world's most widespread weed/flower.

A few dwarf sized calendulas keep blooming through the winter.

Soon, more things will sprout as the days get longer. Spring is not so far away.
