Springtime and Garden Season!

It has been a while, but gardening season is arriving here in our part of the world.

Just checking in to see if there is much of a gardening community and following here on Steemit.

The apricot tree has blossomed!

For now, I suppose I will just post a few pictures and see what happens. Not a lot happening in our garden — yet.

Kale, still growing from last year

In spite of several very hard freezes this winter, some of our kale survived. It's a bit bitter, but still good to mix into salads.

Raised bed

The early work has mostly been to clean out the beds of weeds and dead vegetation left over from last season. The bed above is going to be the pumpkin bed, this year.

New birdbath

After cleaning up the herb bed and adding a fresh layer of soil, we decided to put a small birdbath there. We get a lot of birds in our garden, and hopefully they will appreciate it, by the time summer rolls around and rain becomes scarce.

A friend brought a trailer load of high quality garden soil, back in March. We're going to top off all our raised beds, and then the rest will become the basis for the newest potato bed.

Also cleared around the bases of our apple trees. They seem to be doing quite will this spring, in spite of getting a substantial pruning in the fall, and then enduring a very hard freeze during the winter. Nature can be remarkably hardy!

For now, things don't have a lot of color, but that will change as things start to flower, and we get more plantings done.
