It's Still Winter, but There Are signs of Spring in the Garden!
Although we still "officially" have a month of winter to go, we are starting to see a little signs that spring is not that far away.
I wanted to share a few pictures of things I spotted earlier today, while wandering around property with our dog for a few minutes.
Tulips (left) and lilies, sprouting. Hopefully we can keep the deer off them!
Of course, even as I was walking around, there were a few small snowflakes coming down...
The forsythia is starting to set its first blooms; it's a plant that often serves as the first harbinger of spring. There are no green leaves yet, just a few flower, growing directly on the stems.
The daffodils are starting to poke up from the dormant ground. They, too, are in some danger from deer chewing on them.
Miraculously, a few little pansies are still surviving through the harshest part of the winter. I actually pulled them out of the lawn last year... and they are still going!
alas, we are promised — by the not always reliable weather people — that there's going to be more winter weather and freezing temperatures heading out way this coming week. The few snowflakes I saw while walking around are just the leading edge of that.
Hopefully this will be the last of such weather this year! We're very much ready for the growing and gardening season to start!
