It is October, but we Are Still Harvesting From the Garden - Today, Tomatoes!
Hello fellow Steemit gardeners!
It has been quite a long time since I have last posted, but it has been a busy time!
We are already in October, but there is still a lot of veggies coming from our garden.
The tomatoes have been a bit of a surprise, this year.
We got started somewhat late, due to the long and very cold spring, and we are still harvesting now in October, much later than usual.
Part of the surprise is that we thought all our plants were "regular" large tomatoes, but it turned out that half the plants were small "cherry" tomatoes, only about 1-1 1/2" (25-40mm) in size.
No matter, they are still good food, but a lot more work when it comes to putting them away for winter as Marinara sauce.
After last year's enormous harvest, we only planted half as many plants this year, but we have already picked well over 60lbs (27+ Kg.) from this year's plants.
And there are still more out there, and it seems likely that they will keep going till the first frost comes along... and that seems like it will still be a ways off.
On the whole, they have been extremely "clean" and free of bugs, cracks or other problems.
The vast majority have been turned into sauce and soup for winter, and the pantry is starting to look quite good!
Hoping to find a little more time to post, now that the days are getting shorter and we are spending more time indoors.
