Hello sTeeMiaNs

THE OTHER SIDE OF MY HOMETOWN|20 Rewards to @hive-180821: SUNDAY, DEC 05th 2021

Welcome to see you again on Sunday, follow the Health protocol, stay safe and don't forget to give alms.....!!!

Dear steemians, happy weekend in the first week of December. This time I will tell you the other side of where I live where apart from the nuances of community intimacy and the fresh natural atmosphere, on the other hand our area is an area prone to flooding. This flood has happened since I was a child in the 80s, where I grew up in my hometown with natural nuances which became an unforgettable memory for me. When we were little we used to play with our friends in the rice fields, on the river or on the edge of the forest with various traditional games because currently in our area we have not been touched by technology, even watching TV is only owned by a few residents' houses, including parents' houses. I, even then, still use a black and white screen TV. Because technology was not yet familiar in our village at that time, so we, small children, needed a channel to play and create our own games which were of course very close to nature with group play which actually formed our character when we were adults. In these games, more social interactions are formed that create a sense of brotherhood, mutual respect and care for each other and sharpen a sense of concern for others. It is very different from the current condition where "selfishness" and indifference are seen where people are busy with their own business without caring about the environment, which in my opinion is a side effect of technological developments.

Beautiful memories when I was little in my hometown that brought me back to my hometown besides the workplace factor, where the official office where I worked moved to a close location with my hometown. I really enjoy living in my hometown with a friendly atmosphere and close to my parents and siblings. However, there is a different atmosphere now, namely floods often occur in our area during the rainy season with the intensity and high flood water compared to when I was a child. This happens because of illegal logging which causes quite severe environmental damage in the upstream part, namely in forests that are cut down carelessly by rogue businessmen. Also caused by sand mining activities (Excavation C) which cause damage to rivers and watersheds (DAS) where the mining is located.

Due to this environmental damage, there are frequent floods downstream, in our village area now like the flood that happened yesterday, where in fact our village will hold an event to commemorate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad SAW (Mawlid) Prophet) and as is customary in our village, that for this activity the villagers will cook various dishes and will take them to a place called "meunasah", which is a building made as a gathering place for villagers with various activities including religious activities. (birthday commemoration). In this place (meunasah) there will be readings of "dhikr" and "sholawat" to the prophet and eating together with the invitees who are residents of neighboring villages.

Flood My Hometown

It is a custom in our family that when there is such an event, we gather and prepare for the mauled event in our house according to where we live. Because this birthday event took place where I live, my brothers and sisters who live in other villages and even in other cities, went home and gathered at our house to prepare for the event. However, because of the flood that hit our place of residence, we moved the location for the preparation of the event to my sister's house who lives in the next village which was not affected by the flood. We transport the ingredients that we have bought and cook at our sister's house and when it is ready, we will take them to our village meunasah which is not flooded.

In the morning I took my wife and children to my sister's house and had to wade through flood waters along the road for about 500 meters. This flood only inundated about half of our village where 50 percent of the roads were inundated with flood water so to get to higher places we had to walk 500 meters.

After arriving at a high place we went to my sister's house to prepare for the event where at our sister's house we gathered and cooked various foods that we would take to the event venue (meunasah).

Besides preparing for the event, I also mean taking the kids around so they don't interfere with the food preparation process. I took them on a tour around Cluster IV, an oil and gas drilling area near our village. On the edge of the Cluster IV location, local residents are also using it by planting papaya trees as was done by residents around Point-A as I posted a few days ago.

After walking around for a while I returned to my sister's house in Matangkuli where all my family members had arrived and helped prepare the event. We are very grateful that our family always sticks together and cooperates both in grief and sorrow. We work hand in hand to help each other and that is what comforts me while living in the village even though our area is always flooded.

That's a picture of where I live where joy and sorrow are created. What is very important is to support each other so that we can face various conditions that are sometimes not friendly for us.

Thank you....🙏

You are right, because of the felling of trees in forests, there are many cataclysms in nature. In your country, this leads to flooding, and in Africa, rivers remain dry and without water. People have to leave their homes and move to another place where there is water, rivers, fishing.

Yes....that's the reality even though there may be claims of declining deforestation, but what happens at the grassroots like that and claims like that I think are only political.... 😔
