Introduction |
---|
Warm greetings my fellow steemians, hope y'all are having a wonderful and blissful day. I am so happy and glad to be part of this engaging community, also I want to make it known that am a newbie to this great platform, and this is literally my first post on this community. I hope and look forward to building and great and long-lasting relationship with individuals in this community. Without further ado, I want to seize this opportunity to talk about one of the most staple food in Nigeria, if not in the world. Nigeria, one of the most popular countries in West Africa, has so many staple foods which are admired by other regions and countries of the world, however one of her staple foods that tends to stand out among the others is "GARRI" otherwise known as "Granulated cassava flakes" if pronounced or described in pure English.
My Story On Garri |
---|
Garri is one of the product produced from the cassava plant, the cassava plant can be use to produce other staple foods like: fufu, cassava flour, animal feed, alcohol, starches for sizing paper and textiles, sweeteners, cassava chips and bio-degradable products, etc. One reason why garri is a unique product of cassava is because of the various ways it can be eaten and consumed. Originally, garri is soaked with very hot water to form a pudding which can be eaten with any soup of your choice, as long as it is palmoil-filled. Garri can also be soaked in cold or lukewarm water, and further added with peanut (or and other nuts like cashew nut, almond nut, date), sugar, and milk, this process of garri consumption is called sipping. Garri can also be used for frying dry nuts like peanuts and cashew nuts. Just recently some have began using garri instead of flour to bake confectioneries which no doubt taste nice, however this just a new finding.
Many individuals in Nigeria including me believe that garri is life saver and this is because of how easily accessible and cheap it is. Garri is usually sold in every groceries store, supermarket, and provision shop. Currently, a cup of garri is sold for 200 naira (Nigerian currency) which is approximately equivalent to 0.55 Steem token. But initially it wasn't so, I could remember vividly when a cup of garri was sold for 50 naira, even 20 naira, but gone are those days. One of my dying which is for the government of Nigeria to never make garri grow into and exorbitant price. In addition, the sipping of garri is very addictive, so you might want to be careful, am speaking from personal experience 😁.
