Season 15 : Share Your Food diaries, Reviews, and Adventures! /Japan Style
We wanted to grab a good meal with some friends and decided that Japanese food sounded perfect. There are a few spots in town, but we went with Haikara Ramen, which, for now, is probably the busiest place around. @artist1111 It’s in a prime spot - right in the city center, mere steps from Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
If you’re new here, you can easily pair a sightseeing tour with some amazing food. The place isn’t very big, offering just 35 seats, and heads-up: reservations aren’t an option. Most of the time, there’s a line outside.
Luckily, we managed to grab two free tables. The place has a chill and simple atmosphere. There’s enough room between tables, but if you’re looking for something more private, you might want to go elsewhere.
We ordered three ramen dishes, two types of rice, Japanese mayonnaise, edamame, gyoza, and seaweed with cucumber and sesame. Here’s what we had:
Gyoza – filled with beef.
Edamame – I assume most of you know that these are young soybeans picked before they harden, rich in nutrients, gluten-free, and low in calories. Ours was boiled and sprinkled with salt.
Seaweed with cucumber and sesame – an extremely simple yet delicious appetizer.
Tonkotsu Ramen and Karamiso Ramen
Tonkotsu Ramen – Hakata thin noodles, rich collagen pork broth with Japanese sea salt, chashu, bamboo shoots, negi, green onion, beni shoga, boiled egg, and sesame.
Chashu Don – a bowl of white Japanese rice, with chashu pork cubes, green onion, soft-boiled egg, and shoyu dare. Japanese mayonnaise
Wakame Gohan – a bowl of white Japanese rice, with seaweed, Japanese salted plum, Japanese yukari seasoning, and sesame.
Karamiso Ramen – Sapporo egg noodles, collagen pork broth with original spicy miso tare, chashu pieces, spicy minced meat, soybean sprouts, cabbage, bamboo shoots, dried chili, green onion, marinated egg, and rayu.
Shoyu Ramen – Sapporo egg noodles, clear chicken and fish broth with original soy sauce tare, pork chashu, nori and wakame seaweed, naruto, bamboo shoots, green onion, and marinated egg.
Enjoy!
