A story about my childhood that I still remember well. Almost 30 years ago when almost everyone around my environment lived in poverty. There was almost no luxury that I witnessed, if there was only a few people who could enjoy it.

One day when I wanted to have lunch, I asked my mother, "Mom... why do we eat salted fish almost every day?".. My mother was silent for a few seconds, then answered "It's not about food, but about ability". "poor people can only afford salted fish. And we should be grateful.. Because out there there are still many people who are more difficult", continued my mother.

Since then I realized that salted fish has become the identity of poor people. I no longer protest when I see salted fish on the dining table. I only complain about my fate as a poor person. I realize that being grateful is the best way to find peace in life.

And today when I have grown up, I no longer identify salted fish as poor people's food. That was too naive for me, now almost everyone can enjoy fresh sea fish. No matter what their social status is. There are many fresh fish sellers in the market, and poor people can also afford it. And the fact that I am still poor, even though I always eat fresh sea fish every day.

Times are changing, in the past we could see someone's economic ability from the way they eat, wear clothes or whatever attributes they wear. But now all of that cannot be a definite measure. It turns out that not only chameleons, humans can also do camouflage. Everything has evolved, even salted fish..

Now salted fish is starting to be abandoned.. Even poor people are starting to be reluctant to enjoy fish, they argue that eating salted fish can trigger gout or arthritis. Who knows.. Maybe poor people are tired of salted fish, yes it could be..

We can only see these salted fish traders in traditional markets. And even then only a few people want to do this trading business. They say that the salted fish business is no longer popular and very outdated.

But the fact is that salted fish has a long history that is hard to forget. Those who have made salted fish the main menu in their dishes will certainly be able to appreciate salted fish as a culinary heritage of their ancestors.
