Our Pigeon Coop at Village Home

It had been some time since the rainy conditions ceased. In one corner of the sky a few colorful clouds were, touched by the sun. The air carried a fresh smell of moist dirt fragrance. Water droplets sparkled throughout the village yard after the rain stopped. The wooden walls of the pigeon coop were still damp, and a few soft feathers were swaying gently in the breeze through the gaps in the cage.

Rafi open the entrance of the cage. It was every day, Mithu, his favourite pigeon, would fly over and perch on his shoulder everyday just like usual . But today, nothing happened.

The pigeon remained stationary in a corner. Its eyes appeared tired and its one wings hung lower than normal one. A sudden fear came to Rafi's heart.

He carefully picked up the pigeon from his doorstep. Usually when he held Mithu , it would flutter its wings. But today, it stayed still. Its wing was swollen at the base. It appeared that it had been hurt somewhere.

"Grandpa, what happened to our Mithu?" Rafi's voice shook a little.

After letting his umbrella rest outside he approached from the veranda. He stared at the pigeon and uttered, it maybe hit something so it looks this weakened. Forget about this troubles. Take care of it. It will get better soon.

Rafi nodded. His palms shook but he pulled out a bandage carefully. Using the knowledge he learned from Grandpa Rafi applied medicine before putting a small piece of cotton over Mithu’s wing. Then lifted him up on his right wing, so he could fly. Mithu closed its eyes for a moment, like it knew it was being taken care of.

The night became sleepless for Rafi after that day. The same worrying idea replayed in his mind because he feared Mithu may lose its ability to fly forever. What if it had to live for the rest of its life in the cage?

During the following days Rafi devoted all of his time to caring for Mithu. He held food in his hand while waiting patiently for Mithu to take the meal. Rafi softly petted Mithu's back and he whispering "You will learn to fly once more just like before." Just like before!"

Mithu began to look better after a week. It eyes were lit up with a brightness once again. Its wings became stronger and the wound had healed. But still…

Would it be able to fly?

The answer came one afternoon.

Rafi opened the cage door. Then Mithu walked to the edge slowly. Mithu looked once at Rafi before raising its head up to the sky and peering around. It turned still for a moment, then flapped its wings at first, slowly, then faster.

A light wind sound followed as Mithu rose into the air from the ground. It flew higher and higher and moved toward the open sky. It flew until the last of its tiny blue body slipped from sight into the bright blue sky.
Rafi’s eyes sparkled from a small tear.

The combination of love with care and trust enables to achieve flight. Mithu did it.
