For this weeks Show Us Your California contest by @socalsteemit I'm going to show you how I setup my Blue Bowl and...

find some gold!!

SoCal divider.jpg

So a few weeks ago I met up with @brian.rrr for a fun prospecting trip to the East Fork San Gabriel river. We hiked up the river a few miles and spent the day panning and sluicing. We didn't find a spot with a lot of gold, but we still had a lot fun! You can see more about that in @brian.rrr's post about the trip.

Today in this video I am going to process the concentrated material that I collected in my sluice box that day. First I go through the material in just a regular gold pan and then I setup the Blue Bowl to extract the fine "flour" gold from the heavy black sands.

Until next time...

I hope you have enjoyed this glimpse into

My California!!

Loved the blue bowl demonstration 👍🏻 Was a great time out, and look forward to the next one!

Glad you enjoyed it! As long as the water levels are still good we should try to get up there again sometime next month.

Sounds good to me. I will message you with some potential dates 👍🏻

Thanks @brittandjosie! Is there any gold where you live?

Many years ago, I used the experience of panning for gold as a segue to explaining "Eureka!", Archimedes and metal densities to my daughter.

Enjoyed your post.

That sounds awesome!

How do you explain the city named Yreka tho?

Bad spelling, mnemonic mania, dyslexia? It's a mystery, indeed.

LOL!

This looks like a lot of fun. I hope you find some big strikes! Do you use mercury to get your gold?

Thanks @abitcoinskeptic! It's always a blast no matter what I find, but I'm hoping for some big strikes too! Of course, lol. No, I do not use mercury. It's pretty dangerous stuff. The fumes can actually be fatal. Almost nobody uses mercury anymore. It's not worth all the trouble.

I didn't realise that people still did Gold Prospecting the old fashioned way!... for some reason, I now have this idea of this old old game of gold prospecting in my head... mud slides, flooding rivers....

There's not a lot of us gold prospectors left out there, but here in California the fever is still alive!

Now THIS is really cool !!!! Imagine if you live streamed gold prospecting and got paid just to LOOk for the gold :D Heres almost 50 sand upvote for your post :)

Thanks @sandiegocoin! Earning crypto while also finding gold sounds like a dream come true. The best of both worlds!

Gold prospecting reminded me of the movie The Sisters Brothers. A western film that featured gold prospecting but on the dangerous and violent side of it.

I haven't seen the movie, but if it's about gold prospecting I'd probably love it! Prospectors still enjoy the nostalgia of the old western times, although luckily for us it's much less wild now days!

Do you think that's profitable to do? Even if it's only as a hobby??

If you are digging in a good spot and you are willing to work really hard... it can be profitable. I know some prospectors that do it full time and make enough to live on. When I go I usually barely cover my costs. If that. Sometimes I get lucky and do really well, but I do it more for the fun. I love just getting out and spending time out in nature. To me the gold is just a bonus.

I see. But when doing that full time you probably need a license for that then?

Well if you only do it for enjoyment... Think of thr free camping trips😱 even if you don't break even you are still getting a massive bonus with that. Enjoy bud!

Thank you for participating in this weeks Show us Your California contest!
