In movies or tv shows, we mostly see the hero with tight fitting clothes and a cape. But in real life, they don’t need those attire to be called a hero. In most cases, their deeds and heroic actions are recorded and pass down to generation ahead in order for emulation. In rare cases, some of these heroes and heroines aren’t remembered and their work is on a verge of extinction. In this article, lets see a case of nearly forgotten hero/heroine.
Who is an unknown historical figure that you think deserves more recognition? |
---|
During the World War 2, a heroine was discovered and her name is Edith Cavell. She was born in a small English village in the year 1865. When she came of age, the passion for nursing kicked in as she focused on her dream. In the field of nursing, she achieved a great feat by being a matron of a hospital and trained a lot of nurses under her.
What were his/her contributions, and how did they change history? |
---|
When the World War 2 swung into full motion, Edith Cavell turned her nursing school into a treatment house for wounded soldiers. She volunteered to treat those soldiers and civilians regardless of their countries during that war. She had to go extra mile to forge documents to soldiers and civilains so that they can go back to their hometown. Despite these brave deeds, she was betrayed and killed. The way she changed history is that she is one of the neutral nurses in times of war.
Do you think it is important to aware upcoming generations about the contributions of heroes of history? |
---|
It’s really necessary to ensure that the upcoming generations know about our past heroes/heroines. In the case of Edith Cavell, the upcoming generations will learn to bypass tribalism and ethnicity. In this way, they’ll learn to help people without thinking if he or she is your country man or not. Her heroic story emphasize about the power of universal brotherhood.
If you could meet this person today, what would you ask them? |
---|
If I happen to meet Edith Cavell in person, I’ll ask what propel her in the mystery of universal brotherhood. Universal bbrotherhood, I mean helping people despite their nationality. Honestly, this deeds should be recognized but unfortunately, it’s not. I hope something should be done about it.
