Good day Steemians, I'm so happy to be here again and participate in yet another contest organized by this community under the Engagement Challenge which asked us to speak about New Year Celebrations. How we usually celebrate the new year and the food served during the celebration.
The new year is another opportunity to appreciate God for his love and protection over us and our family, A whole year which is 365 days is long and a series of incidents happened in it, either good or bad, some started a family, gave birth, build a house, become prosper and successful while many lost their lives, while some are battling for their own, some lost their families or properties. Coming out of the 365 days alive and in good condition calls for celebration and merriment.
Routines and rituals you usually follow during New Year celebrations.
The first routine that comes with the new year celebration was the new year's eve program, in my town both the two religious worshippers (Muslim and Christian, though not all Muslim groups) do organize a new year's eve program where everyone will worship and praise God for counting us worthy to witness another new year.
The program comes with so many praises and thanksgiving then after that come committing the new year into God's hand, seeking God's love, protection and presenting all our requests for the new year unto him, because we believe He can do all things and those who seek him shall not be put to shame. The program does come to a close by some minutes after midnight when we enter into the new year.

After the new year's eve program another routine that usually happens is people throwing firecracker bangers (firework) to say goodbye to the previous year and welcome the new year, from 12: 00 to 1: 00-midnight, firecracker bangers will be sounding everywhere, though I did not like the firecracker because of how it sounds and the past accident caused by it, so I don't participate in using it.

In addition, another routine was the firework introduced by our past governor in the year 2013, the fireworks come to live once it's midnight in a popular place in each town of the state, beautifying the sky in the town/city all across the state and people living not too close to the place can also see the lightning from their home. Also, the kids will be seen running and playing around holding fireworks, sparkling with so much joy in their eyes.

Finally, the last routine was New year's thanksgiving which usually happens on a new year's morning, everyone goes to church in their best native attires and offers their thanksgiving offering through our songs and dances.
Cultural activities are organized during the celebrations.
One of the cultural activities organized in the new year is people coming together to the popular places in each town to watch the firework also at midnight on the dot and everyone would shout **"Happy New Year"** in loud voices.

Another activity is organizing a feast gathering where both nuclear, extended family, friends, and loved ones will meet to eat, crack jokes and celebrate the new year together.
Food served during the celebrations.
A Series of food is served during the celebration and such food includes our traditional meals which are Amala and Pounded Yam with all sorts of soups such as draw soup, melon soup, vegetables soup, and pepper stew depending on what the people prefer with meats, and drinks. Rice (ofada, Jollof, and fried rice ) is usually served during the celebration and fruit salad (combinations of many fruits) is served at the end of the feast as dessert.

Decorations of the New year celebrations.
In my town most people don't redecorate after the Christmas decorations, we only clean everywhere in the house, ensuring the house is well tidied and sparkling clean and disposing of some irrelevant things that are not of use regain.
Conclusion
New Year Celebration is a celebration of thanksgiving that has been in existence for a very long time, it's an act of appreciating God for keeping us and counting us worthy to see another year and also an avenue for all families (nuclear and extended family) to come together to merry in a feast gathering, which gives the families of being with one another as they come from different cities or states and they might not see one another again until the following year. A series of food were served during the feast, and so also is the desert.
Furthermore, 2023 new year celebration will also start with us cleaning the house, then I will be celebrating in church, going for the New year's program and thanksgiving on a new year's morning, and lastly having a feast with my family. Thank you for reading.
I invite @josepha, @jasminemary, and @ruthjoe to participate in this contest.

What inspired me the most when it comes to New year celebration is the crossover night. During crossover night, we do sing aloud, Dancing and giving praises to Almighty God.

Thank you so much for adding a valuable comment to my post, I also understand that Muslims had their new year which cause some of them to celebrate the world's new year while some did.
I can say almost everyone love looking at fireworks because it is a beautiful sight to behold, and also an opportunity to bid the past year goodbye and welcome the new year with great hope. Our food is always delicious which can not be found missing during any celebration.
Yes, your food is looking delicious but come Pakistan you will love pakistani food, and Pakistani spices. 🔥
You also will live our meal once you taste it. I like spicy food though.
Your new year celebration is a very beautiful one indeed. Even the thanksgiving aspect is very beautiful, because it’s very important to offer thanks to God for making us see through the year. despite all the ups and downs of the year, we still saw the End of it.
Very interesting, well done 👏
