SEC-S16/W3 - "Who has the strongest influence on children? Father, mother, teacher, siblings, or friends?

Good parenting in the home is key to the foundational learning and social adjustment of a child outside the home. A child's behavior is shaped by various factors such as genetics, surroundings and social interactions but this essay will focus on influence from Father, mother, teacher, siblings and friends.

The write up will define the roles of different groups and uphold the mother's influence as being strongest.

To begin, studies have shown that when father's are affectionate and supportive, it greatly affects a child's cognitive and social development. It also instills an overall sense of well- being and self confidence. Fathers like mother's are pillars in the development of a child's emotional well- being. Children look to them to lay down the rules and enforce them but on the contrary it is the mother's that naturally take the responsibility. As a young child I used to look up to my father to provide a feeling of security, both physical and emotional. I always wanted to make my fathers proud, so father that's involved in his child's matter promotes inner growth and strength.

The mother is the most essential figure of attachment in a child's life from the beginning.A mother helps develop the child's social and emotional skills by assisting them to get through everyday challenges. She also provides them with emotional support to boost their self-confidence. Mother's spend most of their time with the children.

Teachers play an important role in the developing the child's capacity to regulate his or her emotions and to relate successfully to peers. They intervene in children's development by implementing emotional literacy programs and delivering preventative interventions. They also plan the environment, schedule daily activities to promote each child's development and learning.

When I was a student, my teachers would arrange firsthand and meaningful experiences that are cognitively and creatively stimulating to a child.

The relationship between siblings is a natural ground for young children to learn about their world. For example firstborn siblings engage in leadership, teaching, caregiving and helping roles to the younger ones, whereas second- born siblings are likely to imitate , follow, take on the role of learners and elicit are and help.

Friends also help in the development of important life skills like getting along with other people and sorting out conflicts and problems. Though these effect can vary depending on the type of friendship. Bad friends would lead to bad influence while good friends will impact positive influence on their peers. For those that I stated in the starting of these subtopic, children with these skills are know to be less likely to have social and emotional difficulties later in their life.

In conclusion, family relationships give a child a stable, safe base through the ups and downs of other elements in his/her life. The care and love given by parents help the child manage other relationships like friends, siblings, teachers etc. The role of the mother cannot be overemphasized as she is the one that implements the father's role, she is the closest person to the child from birth and exerts the strongest influence on him or her.
