"Pick a Word, Paint a Story #05"
The Mysterious River
There existed in the past a village called Sundaragaon in which midway in the town a river of extraordinary size and dimension used to pass. The villagers called the river the Mysterious River because just like the river could have a mystery at the bottom, the river had mystery in itself.
It was the river in the on which Sundaragaon depended for water supply and a river that the people of Sundaragaon depended on to sustain their lives. From it the villagers took their water and in its soil their crops grew. It became part of their existence, let alone their daily routine without thinking of it as something odd.

The villagers would wade to the riverside every morning with the intention of welcoming the daybreak. Instead they would take their pots and pour them water take a bath in the water and look at the horizon to watch the sunrise. The Mysterious River formed a part of the traditions they followed and it would indeed be dear to them.
However, there was the gossip ringing the villagers, gossip of chest that was said to be buried somewhere at the profundity of the river. Like something being hidden for hundreds of years, at the same time as being something that had been waiting for people to find it.
This was the thing that had lead a stranger to the village. The man who agreed was called Ravi and he had no more than a backpack and a map that he said would lead them to an actual treasure allegedly buried in the enclosure of the Mysterious River.
Villagers do not like Ravi as he knows that there were other before him, who came to the village seeking for treasures. A few went home with their wallets full of gold and napkins full of cash, others were never heard of again. But Ravi was different. Unlike the traditional heroic outlook he was compassionate and he also listened to what the villagers told him.
Ravi moved to the river and each day sat with the map to figure out the clues he was supposed to solve. The villagers surrounded him with envy and apprehension Meanwhile, they started to tell him their own stories about the treasure which was buried beneath the river.
Ravi one day met an old lady called Maya who, everyone in the village said, had been in the village since people had recollected. Ravi thought Maya was always thought to be wise and knewledgable, and the only person he could think to ask to help get the treasure.
Maya listen to what Ravi had to say and she was nodding her head as he was talking. “I think you are correct,” she said “but the treasure that you seek is not what you’re expecting.” It is something far more valuable than gold or jewels.”
Ravi was paying much attention and his eyes were open wide in readiness of curiosity. "What is it then?" he questioned, his voice, visibly shaking with eagerness.

‘Maya said, this is the river’s secret, the river that went away for so long now we are to bring it into the light in days to come,’ she said.
This time Ravi was quite keen to know its meaning but he could not understand what Maya said. For the following days on the bank of the river he watched and waited for some signs. So the villagers followed him, and even more so they began to see these changes to him taking place. In effect, he ceased to be the man who had come to Sundaragaon, but they realized he was on the verge of a discovery.
After many days of searching, one morning, Ravi got what all he was in search of. Very unusual! It was a small, and worn out stone tucked away just at the bottom of the river. Ravi could make out, that the instructions were written in this strange form and that these instructions were for taming the river.
Maya helped Ravi see what the symbols were and began realizing the power and worth of Mysterious River. From the river they derived water, food, energy, and knowledge, hence more than just a source of water it was a life source. The villagers have been benefitting from its ever reservoir power supply for generations, this they never knew.
They were shocked when Ravi informed the villagers. They were living in the vicinity of the Mysterious River all their lives, but they didn’t know how resourceful it was. People learnt to harness energy from the river for treatment of diseases, and for farming and wealth in the village.
Ravi never even seek for gold or jewel, but they are treasures, and in the end, they do not seek for gold or jewel but the wisdom buried in the source of the Mysterious River. Its treasure was this and it made Sundaragaon rich and happy throughout many generations to come.
From that day going forward, the villagers coexisted with the river and they never firsthand the destructive power of the river. They knew that the Mysterious River did not merely constitute their existence or experience; It constituted them.
One of the clearest examples of the power of knowledgeags, and the power of the spirit of man — capable of traveling the world, and finding the truth — was the story of the Mysterious River, which was passed on, and was not simply that. It was a reminder that sometimes we do not go deep into the earth in order to seek and find what our hearts seek.
