Dear Steemian friends,

At first, take my cordial salam. This is @nahiansajid from #bangladesh. It's hoped that all of you are well by the grace of omni-merciful ALLAH. I am also great by the grace of almighty ALLAH.

Today, I'm going to take part in a contest in Hindwhale Community. The contest is titled "Pick a Word, Paint a Story #06". It is organized by honorable @senehasa mam. I hope that all of you will enjoy my writing.

Pick a Word, Paint a Story #06

The Sun is a large, radiant, hot plasma ball situated at the heart of our solar system. It is classified as a G-type main-sequence star (G2V) and is the main source of light, heat, and energy for Earth and the other planets.

It is a huge ball of hot plasma, mainly hydrogen and helium, fusing together and producing energy. By doing so this process turns hydrogen to helium in its heart releasing enormous thermal and luminous power.

Structure and Composition

The Sun is composed of layers, wherein each layer is playing a key role in the function of the Sun :-

  • Core:

The core is the deepest layer, in which nuclear fusion occurs. Temperatures may exceed 15 million degree Celsius in this layer.

  • Radiative Zone:

At the periphery, in relation to the core, this layer transmits energy outward by radiation. It may take any number of years, if not thousands, before energy can flow through this region.

  • Convective Zone:

In this layer, energy is transported by convection currents. Hot plasma ascends and cools at the surface, sinks down.

  • Photosphere:

This is the visible surface of the Sun, with temperatures around 5,500°C. Sunspots, cooler regions caused by magnetic activity, appear here.

  • Chromosphere:

Above the photosphere, in this layer, some weak red glow is produced during solar eclipse.

  • Corona:

That outer shell, and tens of millions of kilometers into space, is visible during totality, and is surprisingly hot, even though the surface itself is relatively cool.

Energy and Light

Sun radiation spans electromagnetic radiation, from visible light to ultraviolet and infrared radiation. This energy supports photosynthesis, drives weather systems, and sustains life on Earth. It takes approximately 8 minutes and 20 s for the Sun's radiation to travel from the Sun to Earth, at the speed of light.

Solar Activity

The Sun undergoes several effects due to its magnetic field :-

  • Solar Flares:

Intense bursts of radiation from the Sun’s surface.

  • Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs):

Massive releases of plasma and magnetic fields into space.

  • Solar Wind:

Sequences of charged particles interacting with the Earth's magnetosphere to produce auroras.

Importance for Earth

The Sun's energy plays an indispensable role in sustaining Earth's climate and ecosystems. It fuels the water cycle, controls weather, and contains the stored energy in fossil fuels. Nevertheless, it is also possible that solar activity may lead to technology failure e.g., satellites and power grids.

Future of the Sun

The Sun is ~4.6 billion years old and is in its main sequence stage now. It has enough hydrogen to power nuclear fusion for another 5 billion years. Finally, it will become a red giant and eject its stellar envelope, becoming a white dwarf at the end of its life.

Overall, the Sun is not only a star, but also a lifeline of our planet, has the effect on any facet of life and of natural systems. Knowing how it works allows us to appreciate the complex equilibrium of our solar system.

I have to study a lot to write this article, therefore, I am late to participate in this contest, but I don't know how you will feel after going through this article.😞

Please put a review in reply section so that I can improve my writing.

¡Saludos amigo!🤗

Thank you for such a beautiful perspective!

Your kind words mean a lot. Wishing you all the success and positivity as well!

Big hug back to you! 💚
