The importance of blockchain technology in any field or an aspect of our human lives can never be look down upon and the reason is because of the significant impact it has on different aspects where it has been adopted of the past few years.

From my little research I discovered that blockchain technology came to a limelight in 2009 when Bitcoin came to existence. Though it has been there before this time but many never knew about it and since it is what the cryptocurrency uses, people became aware of it from that moment.

There are many reasons why blockchain technology is accepted and used in the cryptocurrency world which I believe if the government also adopt it in our various countries today things will be much better. So in this article I will discuss a future where the government of my country adopts the use of blockchain in its operations.

Blockchain among other things has the characteristic of immutability, transparency, fast in transaction processing and many more. So with these let's take blockchain to government. I will talk about two aspect here which are land registries and tax collection using this technology.

Land Registries

When we look at land Registries, as a government making use of the blockchain technology, one thing that will always stand out is that there will be transparency and anyone anywhere around the world will be aware of the land and who owns it.

Currently, there are many land dispute in my nation where a family member will pick a document of the land and sell the land to someone and another member will also pick same type of document and sell the land to another. So this has become a major issue where people clash over piece of lands.

If the blockchain technology is involved, before you get a land you will see the real own of the land because it has been registered and there will be nothing like land dispute again.

Tax Collection

These another major aspect that needs blockchain the most. Here in Nigeria, a lot of people go around collecting taxes from people but in most cases they don't remit the money to the government and even if they do they give the government just half of what they have collected from the citizens.

If blockchain technology is involved, there will be no cheating at all because everyone will clearly see who has payed his tax and those who didn't pay. Also, the amount raised in tax can be clearly seen by all and the money will not be misused by the government or its official knowing fully well that everyone knows the amount raised.

The transparency of the activities going on in the government sector is enough to make the government desist from ever curruption and also do their best to ensure that they come out clean to everyone. So that is how better the country could have been if the government adopts the use of blockchain in their activities.
