As a Nigerian kid born in the early 2ks, I was opportune to catch a glimpse of the end of an era and the beginning of a new one. I began to see the introduction of the telephone slowly replacing the landline, the evolution of Popular (Pop) music, and even the migration from general street football to a more regulated competitive one. While there was significant progress in many other areas, the educational system in my country slowly declined due to a lot of reasons, and it wasn't until recently that the adoption of digital classrooms became a thing, forced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Let's not dwell too much on certain aspects; instead, I will direct my articles to answer very interesting headlines. If you wish to participate in this contest, here's a LINK through which you can join in the fun.

If you lived in both generations, like 90s and 2k, which one did you like the most?

If I had to choose one, I would still prefer the 2k. My reasons are built around the following points:

  1. Mobile telephones were a complete game-changer.
  2. Watching a football match on a 4K resolution TV, especially made the difference in enjoying a football match at the leisure of your home.
  3. I don't hate the 90's music being a huge fan of the late "King of Pop" - Michael Jackson, but we've since seen a lot of talented artists determined to raise the bars.
    Technology basically raised the bars.
How is school life now, and what was it like in the nineties?

In my country, the 90s were certainly better. The use of expatriates to teach certain areas did make some difference. There were a lot of job opportunities for those who graduated from college without stress. The learning environment was only enriching to the mind. I dare call myself an old soul for this, but the mode of dressing was very decent.
If we decide to compare all of these areas to what we have now, the conclusion will be an "irrefutable decline" in need of serious change to bring things up to speed once more.

Do not get me wrong; education in the early 20s wasn't all that bad, and there was more focus on mixed schools to develop male and female functional interaction compared to the 90s where male and female schools were separated.
This is merely my opinion, so I stand by my choice.

If there's something that hasn't changed between the 90s and 20s in the educational system, it has to be "Corporal Punishment"; the phrase, spare the rod or spoil the child remains ever relevant by our high school teachers, at least not in the Universities.

Compare 90s entertainment with 2K entertainment.

Even though I'm a 2k kid, I grew up enjoying the 90s music. As I mentioned earlier, I am a big fan of Michael Jackson's music. The 90s made really good films that I still watch till this day like Titanic. When it comes to entertainment production, I stand on a fence in that aspect, but what really makes the difference between the two eras is the delivery.
In the 90s, you had to buy CDs just to enjoy a movie or music; now, you can just download them or stream them. I recall my little sister asking me what a "VCD" player is. I couldn't help but laugh.
The world of gaming has even evolved to Virtual Reality Technologies. Those days people just spent hours on a low graphic quality "game boy" as they passed the time. How times have changed.

Compare 90's and 2K's games/sports.

I will compare the sports based on football.
I may sound biased in this aspect, but I believe football started when Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo came into the limelight. They made football for me. They completely changed the game and till these days people still compare it to their talents. The 90s also had great footballers, superstars like Kaka, Ronaldinho, and even our Nigerian-born Kanu.
To be fair, the rules of football have continually evolved over the years making the difference.

Compare the sweets from the 90s and the 2Ks.

I would always save up my money just to enjoy this delicacy. Even though I never got to taste many of them from the 90s, the ones that managed to survive into the new era certainly met their reputation but unfortunately slowly, they started to get taken out of the market and the ones that remained either reduced in size or in quality. I remember saving up money just to buy "sibijé" and "milk candy" among others. They all started in the 90s and I was lucky to have enjoyed their tasty pleasures, they don't make them like they used to.

Hello my friend,
You really shared a whole lot with us here, who would have known that the landlines would be replaced with telephones, who would have believed that football would be watched from the lesiure of your homes. Education being rebranded after the covid remains an improvement

It still remains a major improvement, but I'm sure more progress will be made in the years to come.

Education in the early 20s wasn't all that bad, and there was more focus on mixed schools to develop male and female functional interaction compared to the 90s where male and female schools were separated.

I also agree with you, In the 90's education was taught to improve one's intelligence but today's education is job-oriented and education has become a business and is less disciplined.

There's almost zero discipline. In the past, most people would want to go to college because they want to, nowadays, it's like they are forced to and some barely even attend the classes. Thanks for the input.

Hello dear friend you have written a well-navigated and interesting post today.

Your reasons for choosing the 2K generation over the 90s is kind of funny but the truth was stated there.
One thing that has changed in the 2K generation is the advancement and introduction of technology today society. As a Nigerian I wasn't born in the 90s but I was born in the 2000 early 2K which we are known as the gen Z generations.

Also you have clearly giving reasons and differences on the school activities, entertainment, games and sport, even candies (sweets) between the 90s and 2K.
The education system in the 90s is very very different from the ones in the 2k generation..... The Education in the 90s was characterized by physical activities and interaction between teachers and pupils or learners. Learning was made easier with exemption and use of physical materials such as the blackboard textbooks and physical explanation including theoretical guide. What is the 2K generation the Education can be characterized by the use of digital devices such as laptop iPad tablets and other things. In some places there are no more interaction between teachers and people's physically of collaborative activities. ...
I must say that everything pertaining to the questions related to this challenge I have differences in the 90s and 2K even the entertainment games on the sweets. I could remember being told of the use of black and white television in the 90s with just four channel what a boring time what now one can be at the comfort of his room watching movies on streaming platforms like Netflix and listening to music on also streaming platforms like audiomack Spotify apple music and the rest of them

Thanks for sharing and good luck with the challenge

I was fortunate to see a black and white television, I wondered how my mum watched Commando (by Arnold Schwarzenegger) on that TV and enjoyed it. It wasn't so bad though but compared to the 4k resolution Tvs we have, that's a huge difference.
I'm not yet sure where I stand on digital learning, it has its disadvantages and a lot of research Still needs to be conducted on it's effectiveness.
Overall, the 2k is still better than 90s, but sometimes, we need that taste of old wine to fine a balance in our daily activities.

I really appreciate your input.

A great writing from you my friend. I will try to write my best in this contest. Thank you for mentioning my name. In my own view 2k is better than the 90's in almost everything. The only thing I heard was good in the 90's was their system of teaching. It was the best. They produced our leaders today and even the great men who gained independence for us. They were all educated. Today we doctors, engineers, professor's who went to school in the 90's. So the 90's was good in the educational aspects.

There was so much discipline then and people went to school for the passion and interest, not the way it is now that people are generally forced to get a degree in order to increase the chances of getting a job or at least promotion.

Well spoken bro

¡Holaaa amigo!🤗

Me too, it would be nice to have a time machine to revisit certain moment in history as well to get a glimpse of how they lived, history books do not do a lot of justice.
