I was born in a village where there is no even electric pole talk more of electricity. I still have some relatives living their lives there. As a child back, I never had any idea of what electricity was and I did not need it. In that village, only 5% of the population have an electric generator and probably a television or radio. I can still remember how we covered a distance to watch television in the neighboring village when we heard that someone had on the generator. Television, radio, and even the electric generator were more like magic to us. Today, the story has changed and here we are.

How would your daily life and work life be without electricity from now onwards?

I once came across an advertisement that says Data is life. That got me thinking about how effective the data will be if there is no power supply to charge the devices that need the data to function. For instance, if you have data on your sim but your phone, laptop, and other electric devices that use the network are switched off, how important is the data to you then? In essence, electricity is more important than data, yet we say data is life. This is just to tell you how important electricity is to us.

There was a time when we had a power supply breakdown in our community due to a fault in the transformer. We spend 2 days without a taste of electricity. Recalling how life was for me in those 2 days, I can tell you that it's nothing to talk about. The experience made me know more about the importance of electricity in our lives, and it also made me know what it means to be bored.

Within 2 days, my phone and laptop went off. There was no means of communication with friends who were far away, no way to listen to the news as there was no way we could switch on the television, at night everywhere was dark, and social media became inaccessible. The experience was just bad. And I just know I can't live without electricity because I don't want to live a boring life. I just know that life will lose its meaning if we are to live without electricity from now onward. Many people will lose their life.

What kind of equipment would be required to live a hassle-free life?

There is no doubt that most of the things we use even at home require electricity to function. The refrigerator, electric iron, washing machine, heater, and even electric cooker. All this equipment is made to make life easy for us. Apart from that, the phones and the laptops we use to carry out our daily activities can not work without electricity. This makes electricity crucial to our existence.

As such, to live a hassle-free life, we need solar panels to give us a 24-hour power supply. Here in Nigeria, many communities have adopted it since the government is no longer reliable with the electricity. On a personal level, installing the solar panel is in my next year's budget.

Would you be able to cope with life without electricity?

Let me be quick to say NO, NO, and NO to this question. I can not live without communicating through phone calls, I can't cope without accessing social media. I can't imagine staying without television. Without an electric fan, heat might discomfort my life. How do I iron my clothes without electricity? At night what will I use to make the compound bright? I just can't imagine life without electricity.

I can live without many things but electricity? I can not live without it. Electricity is as important as anything. If not for electricity, many of us could have died in hospital. Electricity is one of the reasons we can use our phones and laptops to interact and know each other. The power supply is too important to live without.
