Contest announcement : Global Ban on Single-Use Plastics: A Necessity or a Risk?

The environment is everything that exists around living creatures and influences human life. The environment itself consists of animate or biotic and abiotic (non-living) elements. Humans play a very important role in protecting the environment, especially those around them. Whether the environment is good or bad really depends on the attitude of the people around it. The environment can be natural resources such as land, water, minerals or solar energy. The environment can also take the form of flora and fauna both on land and in the sea. As living creatures who have perfect intelligence and thoughts, humans are of course responsible for protecting the environment.
Because the environment is useful as a place to live, a place for activities and interaction for living creatures. The environment also supports life, such as the welfare of humans and other living creatures. Keeping the environment healthy will have a good impact on human life, and vice versa. One very serious environmental problem is the large amount of plastic waste. Only humans as living creatures always use plastic in everyday life. Almost all humans make plastic an inseparable part. Excessive use of plastic by humans has a very bad impact on the environment.
The consequences that arise are not only felt by humans but also other living creatures, such as animals and plants. Plastic waste not only causes land and water pollution, but also air pollution, ecosystem damage, and even human health problems. However, various efforts have been made by several parties to minimize the use of plastic in life. These efforts range from organizations that care about the environment to individuals. Plastic waste management, especially in Indonesia, has not been managed well so it has become a very serious problem.
The problem of environmental pollution from plastic waste is caused by the nature of plastic waste which does not decompose easily, in fact it takes hundreds of years to decompose naturally. Therefore, it is very natural that currently it is highly recommended that single-use plastics are not used. I strongly agree that the use of single-use plastics should be banned worldwide. In this way, the negative impact on environmental damage can be overcome slowly. Every step taken for the common good of course has various detrimental impacts on other people. However, wherever possible the policy must accommodate every other creature, including prohibiting the use of single-use plastic.
It must be admitted that the use of plastic in life is very difficult to avoid so that the ban will harm the economy both directly and indirectly. Banning the use of single-use plastic will have an impact on workers at plastic production companies. Therefore, a policy is urgently needed that can benefit all parties. However, there is a greater positive impact of the ban on single-use plastic on living creatures. Banning the use of plastic improves environmental health which will be felt by all living creatures.
A better alternative is to use environmentally friendly products. To reduce the use of single-use plastic, everyone can bring their own shopping bag, such as a cloth bag, net or fruit and vegetable bag. Bring a drinking bottle or tumbler, don't use plastic straws, replace them with metal or bamboo straws, and avoid buying food and drinks in plastic packaging. If this can be done, the environmental impact due to plastic waste will be reduced and the environment will be healthier. The most important thing is that apart from doing these things, everyone can also implement frugal, simple and environmentally friendly behavior.
