The Dress Codes Of My Country"

in Hindwhale Community4 days ago (edited)

Hi Steemians,

I welcome you all once again to my blog. It is very nice to participate in this amazing contest hosted in the Hindwhale community. Clothes from different countries serve as symbols which indicate where an individual comes from. In fact, the clothes we wear reflect the quality within us and how important we are in our community.

What are the traditional outfits commonly worn in your country?

As a Yoruba man from Nigeria, we have different clothes we wear which play an important role in cultural heritage. Yoruba people like to wear Agbada and Sokoto depending on their status in society. Both the young and old like to put them on, especially when they are going to different occasions such as weddings, naming ceremonies, birthday celebrations, and graduations of their children from the University.

These particular clothes come in different colors with different names. Some high chiefs in the community wear beads known as Iyun, which they put on their necks so that people can recognize their importance in the society. Hausa people, especially males, wear Babariga, which also plays an important role in their lives. They value these clothes to promote their culture and be well-known worldwide. Yoruba and Hausa women also wear hijab to cover their hair and other parts of their bodies.

Are there any dress codes followed in schools, workplaces, or religious places? Tell us about them.

There are standard dress codes set for workers, students, and staff in any public and private school. They must dress in a decent way because the way you dress is how you shall be addressed. Indecent dressing is totally prohibited and people are allowed to dress in their own tribes. Although people can wear English dress, locally made garments are very common. In fact, in my own tribe, they wear native fabric made with quality cotton to their workplace, especially on the first day of the week. In the religious setting, Christians go to church on Sundays, and some of them will wear complete Ankara with black leather shoes. Muslims worship their Creator five times daily, but Friday is a special day where complete Gini dress with a Hausa cap known as Tajia is worn.

In your country, what type of dresses people wear on weddings including the dresses of bride and groom?

From the above picture, we can see the groom wearing the aso oke with cap design in a unique way. This cloth is one of the best typical African textiles put on by the groom in the western part of Nigeria. People value it a lot because it makes the occasions one of the best in town. Not all the time in wedding occasions do grooms use a stick, but some prefer using it, believing that without it, their dressing is not complete. Beads play a fantastic role when worn by the groom because they look amazing.

The bride also wears Aso oke with Gele, known as wrappers, to make herself beautiful in the eyes of her husband. All these kinds of dresses we are talking about are very expensive in the market. The friends of both the groom and bride also buy Aso ebi in order to walk down the aisle with the husband and wife.

What is your personal favorite traditional or modern outfit, and why?

My favorite traditional outfit is cashmere and Gini. I like to wear the two clothes to different occasions of my choice, to visit friends, or to see my family whom I have seen for a long time. Even after graduating from university, I still wear it because I like to display my cultural identity for the world to see. This way, they can realize that we Yoruba people have a good taste in dressing that suits us. I love being a Yoruba boy and I can display my culture anywhere; our clothes can also be easily found abroad. Even foreigners like products made in Nigeria due to their everlasting and reliable quality.

Thanks to the organizer for organizing this amazing contest and I hope everyone we participate with amazing write up. I would like to invite @josepha, @goodybest and @ridwant to participate in this contest.
