Amazing chromosaturation installation by Carlos Cruz Diez
A few days ago I made a publication about two kinetic artists from Venezuela Alejandro Otero and Carlos Cruz Diez, today we will analyze the second artist with one of his emblematic artistic installations named chromosaturacion.
Although it is not the only installation of its kind, it is located in the museum of prints and designs named after this artist who died a short time ago.
In order to further contextualize the reader who has not yet lived this experience, it is a closed chamber with white walls where ultra violet light of different colors is arranged. The central idea of this artistic installation is to insert the viewer within the same work in order to have a unique perception of different colors through the chromatic spectrum. The variations from one color to another create limits by blurring and creating the illusion of the end of one color and the beginning of another.
Only 10 minutes is allowed due to the laws that prohibit over-exposure to UV light and its carcinogenic effects. So take advantage of the time to make some graphs, it is difficult to take pictures because the light works affect the electronic sensors of the cameras.
The same Cruz Diez in life referred to this installation as a physical or material way to feel the color in an intense way, his study led him to build different environments some designed especially to see architectural works and different galleries and museums.
Another aspect is that this design is from 2004 and is very different from the first installation created by the artist because the first experience was designed with a series of monochrome labyrinths through different sheets of color, the evolution and discovery of new technologies coincided with the use of black light or ultra violet, this stripped the system of the sheets allowing the viewer to cross and position themselves in different parts of the space that is changing dynamically thanks to the chromatic circles of black light, magenta, green. The experience is very gratifying and strident at the same time, despite having 3 colors depends on the angle where you are you will see how the chromatic circles change from one cubicle to another. If you have the opportunity to travel to the capital of Venezuela do not miss the museum of printing and design Cruz Diez.
More than a work of art, I can understand a great part of Cruz Diez's work as an intense study of color, interesting and more applicable to architectural spaces than to works of art per se, even though contemporary art claims its space with its parallel world where the works are more text than what the art itself expresses.
