Trip to Cascata do Arado - Ermida Gerês | Portugal
Still on an old itinerary through the paths and wonders of Gerês, starting from the small village of Gerês that i shared in the last post, we proceeded towards "Dam" Barragem da Caniçada until we found a sign indicating the direction to the village of Ermida.
Do not forget to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way, although this note is unnecessary as it is practically impossible not to notice the landscapes that surround us, and you can get a glimpse through some of the records i shared in these previous posts where we toured this mountainous region from the north of Portugal.
Following the trail on the way to the place i want to share today, once we reach Ermida we will reach a point that allows us to turn left towards Pedra Bela, yes, the same one i already shared here, or turn left along the road of land towards "Waterfall" Cascata do Arado, and that's exactly where we're going.
The route will be done straight ahead, with the river following us on the right side and we will stop at the bridge that connects the two banks of the river.
Once there, we have 2 solutions to reach the waterfall, or we go up the stairs carved in the rock that appear on the right side of the bridge, or we took advantage of the fact that the volume of water is extremely low at this time of the year and we go up through the rocks that find in the middle of the river.
Of course, our intention was not to admire the waterfall from the viewpoint, but to go to the waterfall and if possible climb that rocky escarpment to the highest level, and that is exactly what we did.
The Arado waterfall, in addition to being one of the most visited waterfalls in the summer season due to its easy access, is also one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Peneda Gerês National Park, situated at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level , results from a succession of cascades of crystalline waters that face the hard rock in perfect harmony creating a clear lake.
In the surrounding area it is also possible to explore nature, taking natural trails through the huge rocks that disappear covered by the water in the winter season.
These places are very desirable in the summer due to the many natural lagoons that form along the watercourse.
I've been traveling to Gerês for many years, and even today i can always find a new place, a magical place and retain another memory to remember later, as i am doing at this very moment, and not wanting to do it alone, i share also with you this wonderful spot of my country.
It is an absolutely invigorating experience whenever i travel to this region, i don´t know what calls me there, besides the raw nature, of course, but there is something else, something that one day i hope to discover.
That´s all for today :)
See you soon
Thank you for watching :)
