Hello everyone, good to have you here again after long week of trying to get my team and company go through a successful Inspecstions on the cranes mounted on this massive dry dock you see.

It's took I and my team about four days to get this done, even though we had some logistics challenges.

I lead a team that conducted a thorough Inspecstions on the cranes at one the biggest Jetty in port Harcourt, Nigeria to identify some maintenance requirements.

Here are some breakdown on site.

Visual inspection

  1. STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS:
  • Boom: No signs of damage or wear.
  • Mast: Minor rust sport noted
  • Slewing ring: Showing signs of wear.
  1. MECHANICAL COMPONENTS:
  • Hoist motor: functioning properly
  • Gearboxes: no unusual noises or leaks
  • Hydraulic system: leaks detected on the swivel
  1. ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS:
  • Control panels: functioning properly
  • Wiring: no sign of damage or bridges
  • Limit switches: Malfunctioning
  1. SAFETY FEATURES:
  • Load moment indicators (LMI): functioning properly.
  • Anti-colision system: not in place.

OPERATIONAL TESTING

  1. Hoisting operations:
  • smooth operation, but slow response.
  • load capacity test: passed.
  1. Slewing operations:
  • smooth operation, but some vibration.
  1. Travel operation:
  • smooth operation.

FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

  1. Urgent repairs:
  • Replace hydraulic hoses and seals.
  • Repair or replace limit switches.
  1. Schedule maintenance:
  • perform routine lubrication and greasing.
  • List out and replace worn-out components.
  1. Long term recommendations:
  • Install Anti-colision system
  • Upgrade control system for improved efficiency

TESTIMONY: After this thorough Inspecstions, I am glad to let my steemit members and followers know that the contract has be awarded and we will maintain four cranes mounted on the dry dock as seen in the picture above.

CONCLUSION

After running this Inspecstions for days in the dry dock, I and my team noticed that the cranes needs an urgent repairs to ensure safe and effective operation. Schedule maintenance and recommendations are provided for prevention of some future issues.
