Adapting to change

Hello dear friends

In this opportunity I want to reflect on some of the changes that children may face when they are transferred to another school to continue their studies.

Particularly in my case I was able to study in a school where they attended children from preschool age to what is known here as high school, so it was many years that I shared with most of my classmates and we managed to reach the end, graduate and establish bonds of friendship that over time have been strengthened and with other classmates has been possible to maintain communication and share beyond school.

As we see this is part of the experiences that can be acquired in the school stage and that helps us in many aspects of life. Now, many of my classmates had to leave school at a certain grade for various reasons, so at the time it caused us sadness because we would not see each other again or share in the day to day.

However, what happens to the student who changes schools?
I had not experienced this situation until this moment and that is because next school year my nephew will be changing schools, which has generated doubts, concern and other feelings in the family.

This is because not all children find it easy to establish bonds of friendship, communication, the routine will change completely, he will no longer be accompanied by his school friends, his teachers and even his younger siblings and these changes may affect him to a small or large extent, so it is important to be informed to be prepared and to face them.
Certainly this decision should be taken by parents with great responsibility and not be made lightly, where the welfare of the child prevails as it can generate stress, anxiety, sadness, demotivation and other feelings. That is why it is important not to wait until the last minute to look for the best options.

On the other hand, it is essential to talk to the child about the changes that are coming, the reasons why he/she will have to change schools, the benefits that he/she will obtain, and to see the positive side of the situation. It is advisable to visit beforehand the school where he/she will attend and accompany him/her throughout the process, since it is not easy to arrive and start all over again, from knowing the school, the classroom, the teachers and the new classmates who already have their habits, their groups, their preferences, so it is normal to feel fear at the beginning of this new stage.

As adults every day we can face different situations where we must change our environment for a particular job, change our work team for example and that can generate fear, that is why we must be very aware and understand how these changes can affect children who are not yet ready for the new challenges and yet they are always open and let themselves be guided.

Well friends, for the moment I say goodbye, thank you for reading.

Change could be sometimes very difficult to get used to. Especially for children, it's very delicate, and parents have to show lots of encouragement, care and understanding. Nice publication.

Hello @greatideas!
Changes can generate a lot of fear and uncertainty and not everyone adapts so easily, that's why you have to know how to guide especially children to get the most out of it. Thank you for your comment!
