RE: The Century of Humiliation: Why China wants to reunify Taiwan.
hello @fijimermaid,
from my point of view the worst damage that china suffered was at the hands of the communists who let 10 million people starve to death, another important point is that the communist government of china annexed tibet, now they want more territory because Taiwan is a prosperous country. in short i think it is the same rhetoric of the socialists who want more power, no matter that many people die, and to justify their actions they invent stories where they are the victims.
I agree with you. In my post, I was giving one possible reason that the Chinese Communist Party is using to justify reunifying Taiwan. And nations have lots of reasons why they do something, that's why I agree with you.
The century of humiliation and their Civil War was horrific for China…and there is no doubt in my mind that that dictates a great deal of their motivation to reunify Taiwan, by their own admission.
Plus, without the United States, Taiwan would have had a greater probability of being part of China already. In their eyes, foreign intervention conflicts with their ability to reunify their country.
That said, I did cover this in the post…
“China may not technically have historical claims within the nine dash line, or disputed parts of the line of control with India, or even Taiwan… but in realpolitik, it's not about what you claim is yours, it's what you can take as yours.”
I wrote this as well to a similar comment.
