RE: Ruling over the Video Platform - The War Just Begun

in Project HOPE5 years ago

Hmmm... This raises mixed feelings within me!

Firstly anybody endorsing or promoting actions as vile as acid attacks needs to be removed from any platform as this is simply unacceptable behavior in any walk of life, on any platform or anywhere on the planet. I have not watched the video as of yet so feel unable to comment on it with any authority, I am wondering if it was a sick-joke, if that is the case maybe the situation would be slightly different.

HOWEVER I do not believe a company should have it's products, platforms or services downrated in retaliation, ratings systems exist in order to give people a fair and balanced view if it is something they would b interested in purchasing or using and after all one users experience and opinion may vary wildy to anothers.

TikTok found itself in a soup with a brand new controversy. The video, now viral on all social media platforms, has been called out for glorifying acid attacks on women. further pushed people to underrate the app both on play store and Apple's App Store.

Again, I don't believe a company should be held responsible for the views of one user no matter how ugly or unpalatable they are. The company however, SHOULD act quickly as soon as they are made aware of such matters remove the offending video/post/article, stating clearly on the page that they absolutely do not condone or find acceptable the sharing of such views on it's platform.

There is one other factor I feel should be mentioned, now that we have truly global platforms there are many cultural views that may not be compatible, what is normal and acceptable in one country may be seen as hugely disrespectful in another, we must be a little more sensitive to the views of others and exhibit more empathy when creating content for a truly global community.

The bigger problem with any social media or social sharing platform around today is that usually the social part is not really present, people throw their content at the world and expect the world to like, up-rate, up-vote or share it without truly engaging with the people who share their thoughts about it. Even worse is the huge amount of 'trolls' who exist only to provoke conflict and engage in mud-slinging matches as it makes them feel mighty.

I was only vaguely aware of this controversy, thankYOU for bringing a little clarity to me regarding the details, take great care and keep smiling :)
