Knowledge Is Not Power; Applied Knowledge Is Where The Power Lies

in Project HOPEyesterday

I used to hear people used the phrase that "knowledge is power," but in reality, this is not where the real power lies. Knowledge on its own as a standalone entity does not correlate to power, it is the application of Knowledge that is the power. You will be surprised that a lot of people accumulate extensive amount of knowledge, yet at the end of the day, they may not find its practical usage, and it will not profit them. Just to let you know; it is the action that you put into knowledge, that is the application, that brings the required profits. So as you acquire knowledge, you also need to put actions on it.

It is worthy to note that acquiring knowledge is very important and beneficial, but this should not be where it stops, there are things you need to put into consideration, so as to get the benefits of the knowledge through the application. The first point to note is that you need to acquire relevant knowledge. There are some knowledge that are already obsolete, and acquiring them may not profit you because there is obviously nothing that you can do with such knowledge. In fact, there are things that, going to acquire them, may amount to sheer waste of time. For example; we no longer use steam-power engines for trains. Imagine a train driver going back to learn about the steam-powered locomotive engine when there are more sophisticated trains - like the electric trains, it might just mean wasting time because he may never find that kind of train to practise it.

If you will focus on what is relevant at each point, you will remain valuable. At each point in time and every era that comes will bring its new trend. You need to flow with the trend with your knowledge so that you will maintain your relevance. I am not saying that you should not read far and wide. Actually, it is absolutely good to read wide, but do not major so much on the minor that you lose sight of the major things. Do not spend so much time on "irrelevant" information that you will not have time for what really matters. When going for knowledge, it should be something that you can act on. More so, relevance is very important to knowledge application.

Another point to take note of is the fact that the time of actions matters a lot. That is, when you act on the knowledge that you have acquired might just be what will determine the potential outcome of the action. When you unnecessarily delay an action that you should have taken, it may become futile in the long run. Promptness will become a plus to the potency of the actions. Just to let you know; each knowledge normally comes with time frame or validity period before it become obsolete. So you need to know the right time to act on the knowledge. If you have had the knowledge of the manual typewriter for years without applying it, what use will it be to you now that typewriter is no longer in use? Your knowledge has to be updated and upgraded to be relevant.

In addition to acting on the right time, you should also know that the action itself has to be done rightly. For example; if you have the knowledge of how to drive, and the right time comes for you to drive, but you want to start the car from gear 3, it will not move. Even though you possess the knowledge, and you are also timely and prompt, but because you are not applying it in a right manner, it will not bring you the required result. When applying knowledge, you have to apply it rightly. I remember what a mentor used to say "it is either you do it right or you do not bother doing it at all." It is when you know the right thing to do, then doing it rightly and timely, that the results will come. If you get the right knowledge and do not apply it, or you applied it at the wrong time, then it may not bring the desired result, so do what is right at the right time.

Peace on y'all

There is so much knowledge flying around, it is even cheaper to get knowledge now than it used to be, but the application of this knowledge is where the power lies.

Well said. Applying the knowledge is what delivers the power.
Thanks dear Bimbo
