Will USB replace RJ45?

in Project HOPE2 years ago

Greetings to all my dear readers today touches computer, today I want to talk about a popular trend, about the port, in laptops, computer architecture has been standardized for quite some time, we have the USB port as its name suggests UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS, a port developed with various functionalities, but besides that there are also ports dedicated to different devices that identify it.

For the case that occupies us today is the one among others that I will mention mainly the RJ45 connection ETHERNET port, which in many occasions has been subtracted of the most stylized architecture of the hardware for laptop.

Apparently it is to simplify connections to the motherboard, and use the high-speed USB port as a bridge, but is the network architecture leaving the network port behind?

The truth is that it is not, in fact the ETHERNET technology is in its sesta generation, providing great rates of data transfer, widely used today, in fact if you buy modern components for network hardware, you will get with a myriad of Ethernet port.

So why are some laptop companies choosing to eliminate this port? It's a matter of reducing the manufacturing price of computers, as adding a dedicated high-speed Internet-only port to the motherboard increases its cost.

Which leaves us with the following point:

What if we want to wire our laptop to use more speed from our internet?

That's where USB RJ45 adapters come in.

Devices adapted to use the speed of the USB port through the adapter cable, the only drawbacks is that our internet can only be as fast as our USB port allows it, here are some values:

  • USB 2.0 : 12 Mbps
  • USB 3.0: 480 Mb/s
  • USB 4.0 2.5 GB/S

Greetings dear friend @rubenp, I think your article is excellent and you show us a component that we can use in the laptos of this generation, I have observed that currently have obviated the Rj45 port, but as always there are alternatives.

See you later brother, have a great week.

yes more and more often but I am sure that many manufacturers will keep it for a long time.

Hello mate!

I would say it's always necessary to have Ethernet port available in the laptops yet if it affects price in a significant way then I would say canceling it wouldn't be of a huge problem since there is an alternative.

Thanks for sharing!

I agree my friend, that port should be present even though it has had its own evolution.
