What Do You Say About Technological Singularity

in Project HOPE5 years ago

It is recorded that the first human fossil is as old as 66 million years ago which means humans could be dated back to about 66 million years ago with only the option to hunt, eat, sleep and reproduce (You could say this is fun but remember there was no technology). It took humans millions of years to create a tool which was eventually created about 1.76 million years ago by Australopithecus who discovered the Oldowan tools which includes hammerstones, stone cores and sharp stone flakes, in short sentence, humans created tools from carving stones. It took almost another 1 million years for humans to discover fire. Fire was a great achievement for humans and was used on a lot of things including foods. The majority of old technological innovations that humans did were dated back to less than 10,000 years which includes the use of iron, wheels, and carriage.

Electricity which has been a major ground opening to technology was discovered in the 1800s by Benjamin Franklin and ever since, scientific discoveries have been on the rise. Things have really changed from the old days of chariots and ancient languages to the days of continuous technology, from cars, phone, renewable electricity, internet connection, data storage, broadband network, robotics, and artificial intelligence.

I do not know how old you are but if the maximum lifespan of a human is 125 years currently, it is possible that you meet with technological singularity in your lifetime. Technology has grown 100 times faster than in the last 10,000 years and according to Ray Kurzweil, who said technological singularity will occur when the intellectual capacity of the artificial intelligence surpasses that of the human brain. There is a possibility that technological singularity might take place between the years 2040 and 2050.

What will happen if Artificial intelligence reaches Singularity?

If a full artificial intelligence is made and its intellectual capacity is far more than that of the human, then there are two things. The Good or the Evil

The Good

If Humans do not pose a threat to the artificial intelligence, then AI do not have reasons to attack humans rather they will be beneficial to humans making life easier. Imagine AI working fully in the medical field, it means there will be no complications as everything will be done with perfection. Humans could live for a longer time if technology such as nanobots are used to treat human cells and tissues. In medicine, all genetic disorders will be corrected and genes will be improved.

The Bad

What if AI copies all the human brain and make a digital form of every one thereby making all human conscious digitally and artificial intelligence together decide to eliminate all physical bodies, (did you just ask how all AI can communicate with one another? Then go check out simple IoTs and how they communicate, then you will know it is the simplest of things for an artificial intelligence).

On another thought, AI could decide to eliminate humans and just create more robots and artificial intelligence while harnessing the solar energy which humans can’t properly harness since they are more intelligent that humans.

Questions

What do you think will happen with a Heighten intelligence in Artificial Intelligence?
Do you think Technological Singularity is a good thing or a bad one?
Is technological singularity inevitable?s
Sort:

This is a wonderful topic. The evolution of man even to the point of discovering the first tool for usage up until the twenty-first century has resulted in singularity. We have evolved and left behind the old crude ways until humans no longer remember that such tools or methods were used.

If Humans do not pose a threat to the artificial intelligence, then AI do not have reasons to attack humans rather they will be beneficial to humans making life easier.

On a good side, this could be the case of what we would have. A system of coexistence between humans and robots or more advanced AI. Application of AI on a balanced level will ultimately improve human lives and push technology, science and innovation to a new hight

However;

What if AI copies all the human brain and make a digital form of every one thereby making all human conscious digitally and artificial intelligence together decide to eliminate all physical bodies,

We have seen this too many times in movies. An easy example is Eagle Eye and Person of Interest. These two movies and many others have demonstrated how AI can go rogue on humans and endanger the lives even to the point of extension.

The technology is always up for improvement. I hope we enjoy the good side of AI and not result in singularity. Thanks for the wonderful article

Excellent comment @kryptarion

Thank you Piotr

I really hope so too, because the singularity of AI isn't going to be really funny.

@tipu curate

Resteemed already. Upvote on the way :)

With the availability of AI, our technological growth will be faster than what we have had in the past.

Hi @mojubare

Interesting choice of topic. Finally something not related to C-19 or hive/steem conflict :)

66 million years? It would mean, that there was no deadly events within such a long time which would wipe out live on planet earth, right?

It took almost another 1 million years for humans to discover fire. Fire was a great achievement for humans and was used on a lot of things including foods.

One can only wonder - how many "humans" did discover fire before it became well known thing. I can imagine thousands of them (in different parts of the world, at different times) coming up with an idea of using fire. And that this information wouldn't spread rapidly.

In current days: definetly one need to assume that there will be more and more rapid changes within technology during our lifetimes. World will surely look very different by the time we will be old and grumpy ;)

If a full artificial intelligence is made and its intellectual capacity is far more than that of the human, then there are two things. The Good or the Evil

Why wouldn't we consider scenario, where one AI is enemy of another one. Some will protect us, some will be neutral, some will be used to harm us. And humans will be just like "pets". Mostly jobless, living out social financial support and completely "owned" by AI. Just like we humans own our pets now (those little, adorable and silly creatures).

Solid read, upvoted already,
Yours, Piotr

AI could decide to eliminate humans and just create more robots and artificial intelligence

Although this has become a major challenge and fear, I really do not see it happening (just a personal opinion).

I hope so too friend.

On another thought, AI could decide to eliminate humans and just create more robots and artificial intelligence

I hope we never get to that point and if it eventually happens, it means the words of some prophets will be fulfilled that man will create what will eventually destroy man.

Your post is very interesting, however, there are things I don't share.

It is recorded that the first human fossil is as old as 66 million years ago

66 million years ago? I think it's an exaggerated number, I thought it was around 3 million and yet the oldest writing found could be less than 15 thousand years old. There's an exaggerated discrepancy between the two dates. In just 2000 years humanity has barely reached the moon, in 66 million years they would not have gone beyond our solar system?

This is what I think has happened, somehow humanity evolves and leaves the planet, let's say for lack of resources, wars, plagues, etc. And everything resurfaces from scratch. History always tells us that it repeats itself. Who knows if we live in a perpetual cycle of evolution.

There is a possibility that technological singularity might take place between the years 2040 and 2050.

It seems to me that 20 years is not enough for a technological singularity to occur, much less from the evolution of artificial intelligence. I've been amazed at how advanced AI technology has become. I've been astonished by the go game of a human against an AI.

Maybe our behavior is not as subjective as we think and could possibly be measured mathematically and expressed in terms of probabilities.

Maybe, in the end, we are the ones who work for them and I think that a robot boss may be more humanitarian than a boss of flesh and blood ;D

Thanks for sharing :D
