THE CHOSEN, A SERIES ON THE LIFE OF JESUS CHRIST FROM A PERIPHERAL PERSPECTIVE

The world of cinema is wide and diverse, in it we are delighted with great programs, series and movies that let us see different personalities and stories that allow us to understand and visualize the world in a different way.

So under this aspect, I would like to share for the first time some lines of writing that can express in an open way the impressions I have gained through being able to visualize the TV series The Chosen.

At this point, I will not focus on highlighting the actors who made this great TV series possible, on the contrary, the message and the kind of approach they gave to it is what allows the success behind this great program.

So it is necessary to remember and much more in these Christmas dates, the great sacrifice that our Lord Jesus Christ made for each one of us and undoubtedly it has been a message that has spread for more than 2000 years and that we remember and commemorate years after years with the celebration of Christmas and the reminder of the birth of our eternal father.

Assuming that Christmas is a time of hope, family unity and reunion where solidarity, love for others and mutual support become the central axis of our celebration.

Now, through the series The Chosen we can visualize the life of our Lord Jesus Christ from a peripheral perspective, which focuses on the life of each of the disciples who accompanied him in this arduous task that was aimed at expressing that legacy of love for others and forgiveness of sins as a design that was planned from his divinity.

The legacy of this writing is not based on the idea of focusing on religion, on the contrary, we seek to extend what were the qualities of each of the disciples that allowed them to follow a path of righteousness at Jesus' side, without taking into account their limitations and without fear of leaving behind the life they had already established.

At this point, The Chosen shows us that redemption is possible beyond our faults or failures that as humans it is normal to commit, but that we have the ability to correct with the passage of time and undoubtedly with the arrival and touch of the Holy Spirit, our perception of life changes drastically.

To enter in context, let's analyze the life of Simon-Peter from the perspective of the series, in it we can visualize that he was a man with many weaknesses or sins, to highlight some, he liked to gamble, to get drunk, to cheat to get money and even to sell his own family, these are totally negative aspects in the life of a person and yet he was perceived by good eyes within the kingdom of God, in my opinion, Simon-Peter showed a great eloquence and passion for what he did and it was those qualities that our God saw in him and that allowed him to present himself as one of the great disciples for Jesus.

On the other hand, Matthew the tax collector was a person who was hated by his own people, a product that put himself at the service of the Roman Empire, turning his back even on his own family, this is one of the characters that most caught my attention in the series, because through him, we can visualize a person with great ability in numerical management, a critical and analytical person that allowed him to gain the trust of the Romans at that time and consequently make him the tax collector.

If we analyze the context behind Matthew, we realize that in the series he is shown as a person with a touch of autism, hence his great intelligence and it is that same intelligence and ability in making decisions that allowed him to be liked in the eyes of Jesus and hence he became one of his disciples and decided to accompany him in his long journey, becoming one of the great representatives of religion, of the life and message of our Lord Jesus Christ.

One of the most punctual and significant messages, in my opinion, was the participation of the Great Nicodemus, by then a great representative and connoisseur of the word, which gave him the possibility of leading a more comfortable life than the rest of the Pharisees. He, who could see miracles and know the word of Jesus from his own mouth, did not dare to follow him even though he was sure that Jesus was the messiah.

This is due to the fear of abandoning their lifestyle and leaving their circle of comfort, a scenario that occurs daily in us, where our comforts do not allow us to see the great opportunities that we have in front of us and we let them go for fear of change.

Another of Jesus' companions in the series that stands out in her participation is the character of Mary Magdalene, a woman invaded by spirits that led her to become a profane of her own body, to the point of selling it and being sexually involved with men whom she did not even know.

So that the life of Mary Magdalene, becomes that way of life where many of us sometimes find ourselves, since we stagnate because we do not let ourselves be overwhelmed by the problems and we do not have the ability to face them, even sometimes it is our fears and our weaknesses that do not allow us to move forward.

At this point, Jesus Christ, through his message of resurrection and love of neighbor, managed to bring out the best in these people and turn them into useful people who carried and contributed value to the message that he came to proclaim on this earth, a message that was aimed at the salvation of the world.

In this sense, when analyzing each of the lives of the companions of Jesus, we realize through their deeds and offices that they were completely different people with completely different personalities, visions and perspectives, if you will, but which were given a design, a purpose and objectives for which they should fight, so that in this sense Jesus Christ became the central axis of their lives, exploiting the best of each one of them and extending the kingdom of heaven here on earth.

Personally, The Chosen has allowed me to remember the great sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for us, but at the same time to have clear the capacity that each one of us has and that are the guarantee of the multiple gifts that God has given us, so that if each one of us decides to assume a purpose in life, this will be the one that will take us to the path of success, righteousness, morality, good manners and to become an example for this society.

Up to this point I have only been able to get to know the first and second seasons in detail and it has been an enriching experience to get to know the life of Jesus from a different perspective, centered on his disciples or followers.
