Blockchain can improve dog health and welfare

Dogs are interesting animals. They have the highest number; of all the animals kept as pets by people across the world. Many people have special connections with their dogs to the level that they are no longer pets but often times regarded as friends. Different people have different reasons for keeping dogs — these reasons include; companionship, friendship, security of the home and protection of kids. Dogs have also been found to help people maintain a good health, help children develop interesting skills and promote emotional development. Hence it can be said that dogs on many grounds are as important to their owners as other humans are. This is why people mostly get devastated when something bad happens to their dogs.

The position of dogs in the society

The health and welfare of dogs is very important — from dog food to exercises, dog walks; breeding types and breading data to legislation etc. Dog owners have formed very strong communities across the world where they meet other dog lovers and owners to interact and share ideas on how to improve the life and welfare of their dog pets.

Very recently, the position of dogs as companion animals has gained enough momentum to motivate ministry and local government authority in China to classify them among animals not to be eaten. It is believed that very soon regulations will be constituted that stops and punish the consumption of wildlife, and also pets. A Chinese southern city of Shenzhen, which borders Hong Kong was the first city to ban the eating of dogs and cats in the whole of the country. The city has also extended protection to cover other terrestrial wild lives few days before the ministry pronounced the ban.

Statistic data from an animal welfare group based in Hong Kong reported that an estimate of around 14 million dogs and cats are slaughtered and consumed every year in China — with 10 million of them to be dogs.
However, this practice is coming under a growing scrutiny from the increasing number of pet lovers in the country. A group of dog lovers in 2016 attempted to stop a truck loaded with 320 dogs taken to be slaughtered on a highway in Hebei province, China.

The current paper works of pets are not digitised. Hence pet records such as passports, vaccination and blood tests are incomplete and can not be verified

Dog Life Data, including records, behavioural milestones, life achievements and next generation offspring details is all paper based and not interlinked.

• Missing P2p Dog sale, care and welfare system

No ability to enforce, manage or reward the agreed terms of a Dog sale contract between a Dogs breeder and the Dogs buyer or new owner. This can result into insufficient Dog care and welfare and possible complicated legal disputes.

• Limited utility of acquired big dog data

Currently, there exists no Algorithm for breeding knowledge, expertise and experience used to improve breed standards, eliminate genetic diseases and hereditary breeding faults.
