One-Sided Innovations

There is no doubt that a subject matter expert has a profound knowledge of the particular subject and innovations are born out of such expertise, but there is a major concern associated with it.

"Subject matter expert", from the name itself means individuals having expertise about a particular subject. But the thing is they are expert about their own subject only and this where concerns lie.

As an expert, it is obvious that focusing on one thing will bring more in-depth knowledge and hence new breakthroughs but concentrating only on one and not taking account of its side-effects on other aspects is jeopardizing the situation in the long run.

Whenever a new innovation is out, everyone gets excited about the benefits and starts applauding it, but we don't pay much attention to the side effects that it might bring in the long run. And then we again spend a lot in tackling the side effects.

When automobile engines were invented, everyone was so flabbergasted, it brought a revolution in transportation and helped millions and helped the economy grow but today we are paying a lot more in controlling air pollution.
Also, we are so happy with our internet connection, 3G 4G, 5G and so on, the economy is running on it, but tomorrow we would be paying the price of these radiations.

Are we not getting trapped in this vicious cycle?

Are we really gaining in this short-term development?

Why is it that our innovations lack a sustainable approach?

Our education system is designed in such a way that when we go for higher studies we have to choose one subject and reject others.

It doesn't matter if a student is good in many subjects, our education structure is designed in such a manner that we have to choose one over others.

When students are told repeatedly about being good in one thing, they develop an affinity towards one and becomes insensitive towards others and this thing reflects in the innovations.

How can we have sustainable innovations if since childhood we have told to focus on one thing?

Sustainable development can only come when we are sensitive about many subjects or fields. One-sided innovations are doing us no good.

There is no point in coming up with a brilliant innovation in the field of chemistry if that will adversely impacting biology in the long run.

Go Fast, Go Alone
Go Far, Go Together

Students must be taught things in the entirety and not as some separate subjects.

The true worth of knowledge is when we get a fully packed information about it, knowledge could be exchanged for power and wealth so there is no reason why we should have the knowledge partially instead of having it completely.
